Frontier Airlines misleads consumers into believing they are purchasing lower-priced airfare than they actually are and isn’t upfront about its bag fees, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Amira Hamad claims Frontier “makes up whatever discount it purports” by hitting its customers with “fraudulent and unwarranted charges” related to fees for personal items and checked and carry-on bags.

“FRONTIER’s bait-and-switch and ‘gotcha’ tactics are designed to confuse, trick, and trap consumers to the public’s detriment,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad wants to represent a nationwide class of consumers.

Frontier intentionally hides bag fees, other charges from consumers, class action says

Hamad argues Frontier “does not make its fee structure clear” to its customers at the time they purchase tickets, and that it is even more unclear when a purchase is made with a third-party vendor.

Further, Frontier is accused of intentionally hiding fees from consumers as a way to “fraudulently induce sales.”

“FRONTIER’s fees are not conspicuously shown on its website or on the websites of third-party vendors, and consumers are often unaware of FRONTIER’s large and plentiful fees until after they purchase a ticket that initially appeared attractive,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad claims Frontier is guilty of breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation, under Florida common law, and of violating the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and Florida laws regarding misleading advertising.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory relief along with an award of actual and punitive damages for herself and all class members.

In another case involving a company called Frontier, a class action lawsuit was filed against Frontier Communications in 2020 by a consumer arguing the cable company charges more than what its customers agreed to pay for its services.

  1. John says:

When I booked my flight, they clearly said checked baggage and carry-ons were extra. Then I found the exact dimensions of allowed personal items and made sure mine fit. No problems. I think some people don’t bother to be precise. Fees for picking a seat and other fees were clearly spelled out, but you gotta read the info.

    1. Jodi Bacon says:

Frontier will not refund GoWildPass after cancellation of route that it was purchased for.

    2. Roger Mahon says:

Exactly, their website could not be more clear.. You buy a seat and a free personal item for rhe advertised ulta low fare and can purchase bags and specifc seats at an extra cost. That pricing model works just fine for me. and millions others!

  2. Kojo Mccallum says:

I purchased a ticket I thought was cheap. They then charged me 75 for my bag and 40 a seat. The. Flight was not a non stop flight. I could have flown delta for the price they charged me. It’s a total scam. I will never fly them again

    1. Roger Mahon says:

How it it a scam if you freely choose to fly them and pay the baggage and seat selection fees? If you could have flown Delta for what Frontier charged, why didn’t you?

    2. Karen says:

You do not have to pay for a seat if you let them select it for you

I was traveling from Puerto Rico to Orlando and they were asking for passengers to voluntarily give up their seats. They were offering 1000 dollars in vouchers good for one year and will cover everything, plus fly in a flight with another company that was leaving the same day at 10 pm. I was one of the volunteers and asked for a written statement of was offered. The person on the gate said that he couldn’t do that but that everything was already well annotated in the system. First I had to spend the night in Puerto Rico because the flight that they found me was te next morning. Second, I only received a $500 voucher. When I contact them they stated that the only thing that I’m going to receive is that $500 dollars voucher because there is nothing in written that says other wise. Third, when I was trying to book a flight the voucher doesn’t cover everything as is stated on the email that I received. I feel that they took advantage without care of us. And in my case I’m a 100% disabled veteran legally blind.

I flew frontier airlines this past June from Tampa to Philadelphia just to get to New Jersey to see my son graduate high school. Once I got to the airport, I was charged $25 to have a physical plane ticket. I was not told of this before hand by any means. Thankfully I didn’t have to pay it for my trip home thanks to my sister for telling me that if I download the frontier airlines app and create an account, I will have a digital ticket. I have tried to get refunded for that $25 and I keep getting told that my information is not correct and they can’t help me. My opinion, Frontier airlines sucks!!!

  5. T. Acquista says:

I was always curious of the facility charge and carrier imposed fees

  6. Susan Banks says:

Last Thanksgiving my husband and I flew Frontier and had a layover in Atlanta. The flight was delayed but when we got ready to take off my husband was charged $100 for his bag that fit all the way in the bin. It was at the D gates and we have photos of the bag fitting in the bin and it being right under the Frontier sign. I filed a complaint with the FAA about the airline’s behavior but haven’t heard anything. The crew also have bad attitudes and those things working at the gate at ATL leave much to be desired for customer service. The barking and woofing and hogging at passengers to pay $100 for small bags that fit into the bin was utterly disgusting. Every last person on the flight with a bag had to pay $100.

    1. Diana Brewster says:

Me too. We paid $400 for our 4 personal items that we then had to put under our seats because their was no room in overhead bins. We packed using a bag that we purchased specifically because they are sold to fit under seat and qualify as personal item. We had used them numerous times in the past on frontier with no issue but in November we were told new rule and we had to pay. When I asked for the last name of the gate attendant because she was very rude she threatened to keep us from going on our flight which was on Thanksgiving. It ultimately costed $800 for 4 personal items which had been free. Ultimate price….I will never, ever fly frontier again

  7. PRATIK PATEL says:

I have booked a ticket in January and they also charged me for carry on luggae which was the regular size.

  8. Darlene G Oltmann says:

I’m flying Frontier Texas to Vegas in 2 weeks. My first time using Frontier. After reading all the posts, I’m scared.

    1. Sha says:

You will be ok if you know the rules and what to expect. Go back to your reservation and look at the add ons. Be sure to pay for bags in advance and they have packages you can buy. Taking the luggage does make the price expensive. We make sure to only take the proper size luggage and haven’t had a problem. Take a drink and snacks with you. We have flown them several times and if you have low expectations you won’t be disappointed 😉

  9. Michelle D Weess says:

In May I purchase tickets on frontier for the 16th of July round trip from Miami to Denver. I prepaid bags and my seats and won’t know until the 16th whether or not I’m going to be screwed. If it’s possible please email me information so I can follow up after my trip. Thank you

    1. Melissa Clark says:

Their app does not clearly state that every passenger gets one personal item for free. So they scare you into buying a carryon bag by saying that you’ll get charged more at the airport if you wait. And of course you can’t call and actually talk to a human. I ended up paying for me and my daughter’s personal items when we didn’t have to, simply because it was not clearly stated. Super frustrating and highly unethical.

  10. Belinda Brown says:

I flew with frontier and once I got to airport I had to pay for baggage which they never gave us an option and coming back home me and my family was stuck at airport for hours the staff was so side in Atlanta
