Frontier Airlines misleads consumers into believing they are purchasing lower-priced airfare than they actually are and isn’t upfront about its bag fees, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Amira Hamad claims Frontier “makes up whatever discount it purports” by hitting its customers with “fraudulent and unwarranted charges” related to fees for personal items and checked and carry-on bags.

“FRONTIER’s bait-and-switch and ‘gotcha’ tactics are designed to confuse, trick, and trap consumers to the public’s detriment,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad wants to represent a nationwide class of consumers.

Frontier intentionally hides bag fees, other charges from consumers, class action says

Hamad argues Frontier “does not make its fee structure clear” to its customers at the time they purchase tickets, and that it is even more unclear when a purchase is made with a third-party vendor.

Further, Frontier is accused of intentionally hiding fees from consumers as a way to “fraudulently induce sales.”

“FRONTIER’s fees are not conspicuously shown on its website or on the websites of third-party vendors, and consumers are often unaware of FRONTIER’s large and plentiful fees until after they purchase a ticket that initially appeared attractive,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad claims Frontier is guilty of breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation, under Florida common law, and of violating the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and Florida laws regarding misleading advertising.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory relief along with an award of actual and punitive damages for herself and all class members.

In another case involving a company called Frontier, a class action lawsuit was filed against Frontier Communications in 2020 by a consumer arguing the cable company charges more than what its customers agreed to pay for its services.

I flew Frontier coming back from Denver, and I will never fly Frontier again. By the time I paid for my flight, bags and agent assistance, it was the same price as any other one flights through a different airline. I asked the agent to print out my boarding pass and she told me it was going to cost another 22.00. Absolutely ridiculous! Then once on the plane, they came around with snacks and beverages, and they weren’t complimentary. Never again!

I had the same experience when purchasing two round trip tickets from Tampa Florida to Cincinnati Ohio by the time I paid all the fees that they charge individually you can fly any airline for just a few dollars more. When I went to check a bag and the service agent tried to charge me 25.00 fee just to tag my bag is when I had enough. My wife and I fly from Tampa to Cincinnati 2-3 times a year and we’ll NEVER fly frontier airlines again

  2. Cyndi says:

After purchasing tickets I read reviews about this airline charging extra fees once you arrive at the airport. I packed, unpacked and weighed our bags and personal items so we wouldn’t be charged any extra fees. Had I not read all the bad reviews I’m sure they would’ve hit us up for more money. I did notice that if you don’t have an app on your phone to check in, or don’t check in at a kiosk you are charged $25.00 for an agent to assist you, which is not shown on their website and only has a small sign showing this charge once you are in-line for check-in. Lots of misguided information on their website. We will not be using Frontier airline in the future. We don’t mind paying extra, but let us know first and not keep it hidden from your customers.

Totally true I flew to cancun two weeks ago and was charged extra just to type in my info since I didn’t check in online then charged 70 something dollars for one bag then another 70 something dollars for overweight under 5 lbs omg this airline is taking advantage of us the consumers

      1. AngelicaMatura says:

Yup 25 dollars I was charged also for the agent fee to assist

    2. Roger Mahon says:

The $25 fee is clearly disclosed on the website when booking a ticket. In fact you have to specifically click an option to say that you do NOT need airport assistance to proceed with your booking! It’s all there on the website!

  3. Jason Jacobs says:

I purchased the Frontier GoWildPass and haven’t been able use the pass. The 24hrs advance purchase is false. I have found that the tickets aren’t available, then the next day the tickets suddenly become available. I had to purchase a full priced ticket. Later the GoWildPass ticket suddenly was available, after I purchased the full price!

I have been ripped off on every fight I taken on Frontier when the pass went live.

    Totally ripped off

  4. Tiffany W says:

Thank you! About time someone calls out Frontier for their fake “low fares”. After paying for seats, bags, snacks and drinks, and airline service it’s usually as much or more cost than better quality airlines. The service on the airlines is horrible too. I sat up front on a recent flight and had to listen to the flight attendants gossip with each other the whole time. Since they offer no services on these flights, I guess they don’t have much else to do.

  5. Michael Machado says:

Just booked a flight to Denver. Looks like there are 3 duplicate charges buried with all the fees. Then there’s a fee if you want to speak with someone.

  6. Joyce Williams says:

Bait & witch. The low fairs are never any place you want to go
    It’s a scam.

  7. Chris T says:

I bought a round trip ticket to Florida for 146.00. Then a day later they said I could pick my seats and what bags i would be traveling with and then charged 503.00 for seats and one carry-on

  8. Candice says:

Frontier is definitely leading the blind & robbing people. Me & my boyfriend went to Puerto Rico last October & charged us $300 total in fees when we got to the airport AFTER I bought the tickets through 3rd party 2 weeks before our trip. We will never travel frontier again….with their hard ass seats!!!

  9. Paul Buike says:

My family and I have flown them for years, and we just pay the fees, I do not ever remember seeing an explanation of the fees except until you’re at the checkout.

  10. Stephanie Gountanis says:

Yes there’s hidden fees yes you have to read the fine print for an hour before you book a flight. However, recently I took a flight and had no carry-on I had my purse. The day after I got home there was a $3.99 charge on my debit card to frontier. I purchased no drinks I didn’t do anything. There’s no detail just says frontier airlines $3.99. and the charge was run the day after I arrived home.
