Frontier Airlines misleads consumers into believing they are purchasing lower-priced airfare than they actually are and isn’t upfront about its bag fees, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Amira Hamad claims Frontier “makes up whatever discount it purports” by hitting its customers with “fraudulent and unwarranted charges” related to fees for personal items and checked and carry-on bags.

“FRONTIER’s bait-and-switch and ‘gotcha’ tactics are designed to confuse, trick, and trap consumers to the public’s detriment,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad wants to represent a nationwide class of consumers.

Frontier intentionally hides bag fees, other charges from consumers, class action says

Hamad argues Frontier “does not make its fee structure clear” to its customers at the time they purchase tickets, and that it is even more unclear when a purchase is made with a third-party vendor.

Further, Frontier is accused of intentionally hiding fees from consumers as a way to “fraudulently induce sales.”

“FRONTIER’s fees are not conspicuously shown on its website or on the websites of third-party vendors, and consumers are often unaware of FRONTIER’s large and plentiful fees until after they purchase a ticket that initially appeared attractive,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad claims Frontier is guilty of breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation, under Florida common law, and of violating the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and Florida laws regarding misleading advertising.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory relief along with an award of actual and punitive damages for herself and all class members.

In another case involving a company called Frontier, a class action lawsuit was filed against Frontier Communications in 2020 by a consumer arguing the cable company charges more than what its customers agreed to pay for its services.

  1. Kristina Serna says:

I purchased the Annual Wild pass from Frontier Airlines December 2022 and it didn’t become valid until May 5, 2023. I purchased the Wild Pass from Frontier Airlines for myself at $599 and for my fiancee at $599 as well. I also purchased the Discount Den for $99 for my daughter who is 14 years old because according to Frontier airlines kids ride free with Discount Den. I live in Indianapolis Indiana and almost all of my family moved to Las Vegas Nevada in 2020. I purchased the pass because I thought it would be worth it as we have used Frontier Airlines prior to purchasing. However, here it is April 1, 2024 and we have not been able to use Frontier Airlines Annual Go Wild Pass that is set to expire May 2, 2024. Frontier Airlines no longer offers any direct flights from Indianapolis International Airport to Las Vegas at all. The only flights go to other airports with layovers from 9 hours to 1+ days. I don’t mind a layover or plane changing but these times are ridiculous. When I purchased my passes they were offering flights at least once a week directly which is reasonable. I just want to know what I need to do to be included on this lawsuit. Frontier Airlines continues to shade and take advantage of their customers in order to make a dollar.

  2. Christina Zarka says:

Frontier charged me because their staff sent me at the wrong gate. My first time flying and I missed my flight so they charged me to take a flight that same day or told me I had to sit and wait for two days at the airport and flew me into another town Further from my destination .

  3. Merrill Dellas says:

Add me! I flew to LA with them in 2021 and was charged for my carry on luggage! Totally UNEXPECTED when I went to board the flight!

  4. Dorothy Johnson says:

I had a valid ticket on November 4 that was flagged as possible fraud at the airport. I had to buy another ticket n pay for my baggage, which they assured me would be refunded. Almost 4 months later, I’m still trying to get my refund.

  5. Kris Barrow says:

Frontier charged me an additional 100.00 (75.00 for the few extra lbs., 25 for agent service fee) for my bag weighing just over 40 lbs. I had already prepaid 79.00. I realize I made a mistake but this is robbery. I flew Frontier many times this year and encountered numerous delays and missed connections. So, they made many mistakes with zero accountability and my single mistake cost me 100.00. It just doesn’t seem right, they have way too much power over consumers.

  6. Jordan says:

I flew frontier out of PHL to ORL on 12/6 and returned 12/10. I bought my bags prior to 12/6 and was also charged AGAIN at the airport along with many other hidden fees. My flight from Philadelphia to Orlando with 1 prepaid checked bag and a personal item was originally $175 round trip and has now ended up being $510 round trip!!!! OH, and my bag IS LOST and never returned to PHL!!! $510 for a budget airline and 2 hour flight is INSANE and then to lose my luggage. Frontier is knowingly stealing from people at the airport because we have no other option but to find the extra funds. How is Frontier getting away with this DISGUSTING AND DISHONEST service and nothing is being done? I was literally robbed without a gun at BOTH airports by Frontier!! I am a social worker and am asking for all advice about how I can make some loud noise about this unjust and dishonest service being done to Frontiers customers. Thank you. We must stand up and speak out for change to happen.
