Frontier Airlines misleads consumers into believing they are purchasing lower-priced airfare than they actually are and isn’t upfront about its bag fees, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Amira Hamad claims Frontier “makes up whatever discount it purports” by hitting its customers with “fraudulent and unwarranted charges” related to fees for personal items and checked and carry-on bags.

“FRONTIER’s bait-and-switch and ‘gotcha’ tactics are designed to confuse, trick, and trap consumers to the public’s detriment,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad wants to represent a nationwide class of consumers.

Frontier intentionally hides bag fees, other charges from consumers, class action says

Hamad argues Frontier “does not make its fee structure clear” to its customers at the time they purchase tickets, and that it is even more unclear when a purchase is made with a third-party vendor.

Further, Frontier is accused of intentionally hiding fees from consumers as a way to “fraudulently induce sales.”

“FRONTIER’s fees are not conspicuously shown on its website or on the websites of third-party vendors, and consumers are often unaware of FRONTIER’s large and plentiful fees until after they purchase a ticket that initially appeared attractive,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad claims Frontier is guilty of breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation, under Florida common law, and of violating the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and Florida laws regarding misleading advertising.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory relief along with an award of actual and punitive damages for herself and all class members.

In another case involving a company called Frontier, a class action lawsuit was filed against Frontier Communications in 2020 by a consumer arguing the cable company charges more than what its customers agreed to pay for its services.

  1. Kaiesha Strickland says:

Frontier charged me for my medical bag which included my insulin and oral medicine before boarding my flight. Then on the return flight TSA was closed and they refused to refund my flight out of OKC. The employees said it happens every week. There should be a class action suit for that too.

  2. Amie Phillips says:

When I booked my flight I had a certain amount of money to spend. By the time I was finished with all the extras like bags and seating it was way more than I had expected. I watched as a woman ahead of me get charged $90 for her personal item that she didn’t have to pay for on her original flight (a shoe was sticking out!) I had to squeeze my bag in the thing they measure your bag. They let me through I think because it was obvious I was dealing with cancer. I felt bad for the woman ahead of me. I was taking my grandson to see my mom for the last time before she died and wasn’t healthy enough to drive like I usually do.

  3. SM says:

Frontier was willing to leave me stranded and refused to let me board my flight back home because they wanted to charge me TWICE for my personal item that they claimed was a “carry-on.” I had a connecting flight and they repeatedly told me I needed to pay to have my bag with me on the plane. They didn’t let me on until there was literal minutes left for doors closing. F*** frontier airlines!

I would like to join this lawsuit. I purchased tickets on Frontier for myself and my sister in May of 2023. We were double charged for baggage and our baggage cost was more than twice the amount of what our tickets cost. We tried calling, we tried emailing, we used the chat feature, we even went to the airport to speak to an agent or manager, who refused to speak to us. We took our flight having paid well over $1,000 for two tickets that should have been $299, the majority of it being baggage charge for one bag each. Upon trying to check in for our return flight Frontier added a $50 fee before we could check in. Stating it was an agent assistance fee. Without paying the fee our flight was going to be cancelled. We didn’t have an agent assist us. We had to go to the airport 4hrs early to try to check in. Unreal experience & cost for a horrible flight.

I would like to join this lawsuit. Not only because I was overcharged baggage fees but also because Frontier left me stranded today by cancelling their flight and refusing to help us get other flights. There was no option but for me to go to another airlines and pay 5 times the price to book a same day 1 way ticket home. My concern is what do passengers do that can’t afford to book another flight?

  6. Jessica Eskridge says:

Frontier has always been a scam from the airline tickets to the luggaging prices before boarding. We booked a flight from Milwaukee to Phoenix one way we were delayed 3x before they said the flights were cancelled they put us out the terminal and said we had to wait by ticketing also no advance notifications on delays or cancellation to our phones or emails we literally had to find out on the board at airport. They were still checking peoples in knowing flights were canceled. Counter agents lied to us customers saying they were going to put us up in a hotel because they had no more flights leaving out until 2days later we never got the promised lodging. When contacting Airlines chat because they do not have telephone number the agents said that my request for hotel was never logged so I would have to go back to counter agents and talk to them about lodging after I spent $270 on 2 nights for a hotel room. Even after checking out our hotel we still have to wait 10hours to board a flight at airport .We were charged for a book bag that clearly fit in personal sizing bin and still had to pay something really needs to be done about Frontier airlines the worst ever. I even made complaint to the Department of Transportation

    1. Cassandra Neely says:

Me and my daughter had flight to El Salvador. Our flight there was $69 each, the check in bags was $68 that’s dam ridiculous that the luggage cost almost the same as the trip. They are ridiculous on the bag prices, pure nonsense. Other stuff happened along the way for our flight too.

  7. Catie Mohr says:

My 12 year old son and I just took a one way flight from Portland to Denver on the red eye this morning. I purchased the tickets thinking I had gotten a great deal but unbeknownst to me, I had to shell out money for seats, a checked bag for $78.00, a carry on for another $72.00 all equaling $197.00. All of this even before we boarded. I mean what if I didn’t have the money for a seat? Then we are stuck or have to stand for the flight? Better yet, I guess they could’ve put us down in the luggage. Where’s the great deal in this? We had no idea of all of these charges. The biggest thing to wrap up this nightmare of a money hungry airline is, heaven forbid if you get thirsty or want a snack on the flight, you gotta pay for drinks and a snack at a substantial price. Honestly, I’m waiting on a bill for the oxygen we inhaled on the plane. Also to wrap up this comment, when the pilot comes over to speak we were referred to as customers and not passengers. That right there tells you what they think of the passengers that fly with them. I want to be a part of this class action lawsuit. This is complete fraud and theft by deceptive practices.

  8. Eric Roul says:

We got the exact same issues. We travelled in April 2023 from California to Florida and paid the extra fees for the carry on luggage. But in addition, the airline lost my son’s carry on. We followed their procedure and opened a claim at the airport in Florida but they never could find the carry on. Now, we are in August 2023, and after filling a complaint in May 2023 and providing receipts for all the valuables (over $5k), they said that they would reimburse only about $1k, then we received a notification that we will receive a check of $112!!!! We tried to contact by phone their support and complaint dept without success, as they make it almost impossible to get someone on the phone. This airline is a disgrace. dishonest to say the least!!

  9. Kristina falco -Nevada says:

I just saw this class action lawsuit tonight and I haven’t flown in years, I finally decided to take my kids on their first airplane and since it was so last minute I was searching for the best prices. Of course spirit and frontier popped up. Long story short our trip that was suppose To be under 300$, might I mention this was just a short 45 min flight from Las Vegas,NV to San Diego, CA, ended up costing us an extra 85$x2=170 plus we thru out a suitcase and blanket instead of paying for suitcase since we were already at the dang airport ready to leave and had no choice but to miss the flight or pay for the bags. Absolutely horrible. We also had to pay for them coming back so that was also additional x2. This settlement should be open to all states and everyone who purchased before the date this was posted should be allowed to be a part of it. Please add me I’ve got the proof.
Sincerely pissed off mama- where’s my free
Tickets lol with luggage included lol

  10. Eugene Mitchell says:
