Frontier Airlines misleads consumers into believing they are purchasing lower-priced airfare than they actually are and isn’t upfront about its bag fees, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Amira Hamad claims Frontier “makes up whatever discount it purports” by hitting its customers with “fraudulent and unwarranted charges” related to fees for personal items and checked and carry-on bags.

“FRONTIER’s bait-and-switch and ‘gotcha’ tactics are designed to confuse, trick, and trap consumers to the public’s detriment,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad wants to represent a nationwide class of consumers.

Frontier intentionally hides bag fees, other charges from consumers, class action says

Hamad argues Frontier “does not make its fee structure clear” to its customers at the time they purchase tickets, and that it is even more unclear when a purchase is made with a third-party vendor.

Further, Frontier is accused of intentionally hiding fees from consumers as a way to “fraudulently induce sales.”

“FRONTIER’s fees are not conspicuously shown on its website or on the websites of third-party vendors, and consumers are often unaware of FRONTIER’s large and plentiful fees until after they purchase a ticket that initially appeared attractive,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad claims Frontier is guilty of breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation, under Florida common law, and of violating the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and Florida laws regarding misleading advertising.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory relief along with an award of actual and punitive damages for herself and all class members.

In another case involving a company called Frontier, a class action lawsuit was filed against Frontier Communications in 2020 by a consumer arguing the cable company charges more than what its customers agreed to pay for its services.

My husband and I were charged on our connecting flight $99 per personal item, which we purchased specifically to meet Frontier size requirements. Not only did we have to pay for what should have been included in our fair, my husband was rudely, and loudly, accused of purposely stepping on the the representatives toe. It was so embarrassing. Then we were told to stop talking or we would be “unboarded”. We we not being rude. We witnessed several young people with just small backpacks be harassed and told they had to pay to take their bags on the flight. We sent in several emails to their complaint department and the gave us a $75 voucher. Whoopy. They also said they stand by their team to make decisions on who needs to pay or not pay . Such a scam.

  2. Carla Matthews says:

I just returned from a flight with Frontier and was forced to pay an additional $73 for my personal item which is within their stated dimensions for a personal size item. In addition, the case was damaged when they forced it to fit down into the inaccurate measuring box. I paid an additional $500 for baggage and seats on top of the cost of my ticket which I was not informed about beforehand. They refused to refund the money I paid when I requested it after finding out about the hidden charges.

How can I join this class action? This happened to my wife and I last year. She had a backpack with a t-shirt, her wallet, and a pair of shoes that weighed about 3 lbs. They wanted to charge us $100 because the handle of the backpack was an inch over their sizing checker. We were not allowed to board and were denied the option to reschedule when I argued that we’ve traveled with that backpack on many other flights including Frontier and asked for the gate agent’s name. We lost almost $300.

  6. Raquel says:

We took a trip in May and paid almost $500 in fees for 2 carry on and 2 check in bags. That will also be our first and last time flying Frontier.
