Frontier Airlines misleads consumers into believing they are purchasing lower-priced airfare than they actually are and isn’t upfront about its bag fees, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Amira Hamad claims Frontier “makes up whatever discount it purports” by hitting its customers with “fraudulent and unwarranted charges” related to fees for personal items and checked and carry-on bags.

“FRONTIER’s bait-and-switch and ‘gotcha’ tactics are designed to confuse, trick, and trap consumers to the public’s detriment,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad wants to represent a nationwide class of consumers.

Frontier intentionally hides bag fees, other charges from consumers, class action says

Hamad argues Frontier “does not make its fee structure clear” to its customers at the time they purchase tickets, and that it is even more unclear when a purchase is made with a third-party vendor.

Further, Frontier is accused of intentionally hiding fees from consumers as a way to “fraudulently induce sales.”

“FRONTIER’s fees are not conspicuously shown on its website or on the websites of third-party vendors, and consumers are often unaware of FRONTIER’s large and plentiful fees until after they purchase a ticket that initially appeared attractive,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad claims Frontier is guilty of breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation, under Florida common law, and of violating the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and Florida laws regarding misleading advertising.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory relief along with an award of actual and punitive damages for herself and all class members.

In another case involving a company called Frontier, a class action lawsuit was filed against Frontier Communications in 2020 by a consumer arguing the cable company charges more than what its customers agreed to pay for its services.

Yes I also purchased a ticket with Frontier Airlines.

    Yes I purchased from frontier

After I bought my sister and niece airfare, Frontier suddenly charged them $78 for regulation allowable carry-on bags both ways even though they were supposedly allowed one item each. Frontier caused more than $312 in these punitive damages for the carry-ons. Frontier caused confusion and stress on in my sister trying to pay quickly at the airport. Frontier delayed the return flight 7 hours without giving notice. Frontier tried to bilk us to pay up to $43 extra per seat to pick an assigned seat we already paid for. I want in on this class action lawsuit. I have documentation of our shock in passing emails and Frontier not allowing my sister and niece on the plane unless they paid (a true hardship for them). I documented my payment for their return bags, plus my initial payment for airfare. Let me know how to assist this action from here.

  5. Stacy Martens says:

I’ve flown Frontier for years until my last roundtrip May 2023 flight out of Denver. I was travelling with the same underseat bag as always, my personal item, and it suddenly “doesn’t fit” the bag sizer. A section of the wheels were poking up. The gate agent was incredibly rude and had me stand to the side with people having the same issue to keep serving the other customers. Then she closes the gate while we panicked and dug for credit cards to pay and extra $100 for the bag that I afterwards stored under the seat, per usual. Never flying Frontier again. Frontier responded basically “too bad” and never addressed the gate agent’s rudeness or the stress caused for almost missing my flight.

  6. Michelle says:

We were going to be charged our carry on even if it fit and they “advised” us to check in our luggage and “save money” that way. We ended up paying a total of $600 on top of airfare tickets! Our flight was only from AZ to CA. Ridiculous

  7. Sheena O says:

I need on on this lawsuit! I was charged 3 different times departing and returning for a personal item which is supposed to be free. No other airline has charged me for it. I even checked their measurement requirements online and measured before leaving home. The woman in Jamaica told me it has to fit in the metal tin they have which is definitely smaller than what the website says. Over $200 additional in baggage fees which had to be paid before I could board my flight. They dont even have a phone number to call and speak with anyone. That says alot in itself. I sent an email and was responded to, rudely and unapologetically. I never got a response back to the last email i sent. I definitely left a review saying I would fly with Spirit Airlines before I ever fly with them again.

    1. Lisa Wisher says:

After booking a flight with Frontier for their so called cheaper rate I found I was being nickel and dimed during the booking process for baggage fees, carry on fees, seating fees. By the time all was finished I could have flown with any other airline for the same amount! I’m still trying to figure out seating fees. If I chose not to pay for the seat itself, should I just strap myself to the wing???

  8. patricia lupien says:

I had a small personal item and was charged 100 at the gate. Had to pay it before I could get on the plane!

  9. C.G. says:

Frontier charged me fees AFTER my flight was completed. I did not chose my seat, have a checked in luggage, and only had my purse so I don’t know why I had additional charges. Also, I paid extra to get paid if the flight was delayed by 2 hours or more. I was never paid for the delay.

  10. Don Vincent says:

They caused me to miss my connecting flight and charged me to catch a different flight. They were 2 hours late and took no responsibility. They add fees to everything and their deals are never available for the “days you fly.”
