Frontier Airlines misleads consumers into believing they are purchasing lower-priced airfare than they actually are and isn’t upfront about its bag fees, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Amira Hamad claims Frontier “makes up whatever discount it purports” by hitting its customers with “fraudulent and unwarranted charges” related to fees for personal items and checked and carry-on bags.

“FRONTIER’s bait-and-switch and ‘gotcha’ tactics are designed to confuse, trick, and trap consumers to the public’s detriment,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad wants to represent a nationwide class of consumers.

Frontier intentionally hides bag fees, other charges from consumers, class action says

Hamad argues Frontier “does not make its fee structure clear” to its customers at the time they purchase tickets, and that it is even more unclear when a purchase is made with a third-party vendor.

Further, Frontier is accused of intentionally hiding fees from consumers as a way to “fraudulently induce sales.”

“FRONTIER’s fees are not conspicuously shown on its website or on the websites of third-party vendors, and consumers are often unaware of FRONTIER’s large and plentiful fees until after they purchase a ticket that initially appeared attractive,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad claims Frontier is guilty of breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation, under Florida common law, and of violating the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and Florida laws regarding misleading advertising.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory relief along with an award of actual and punitive damages for herself and all class members.

In another case involving a company called Frontier, a class action lawsuit was filed against Frontier Communications in 2020 by a consumer arguing the cable company charges more than what its customers agreed to pay for its services.

Purchase tickets for a family vacation Mother’s Day weekend. Got to the airport had a bag that I travel with all the time at six under the seat would not fit in frontiers luggage check device can you charge me $100. My husband is traveling with me he also carries a bag that he’s always carry some nylon bag, a Sam’s Club bag of travel for years with it, because the top would not fit all the way down there and he was up maybe 2 inches, we could easily have pushed it down in there. She said no I had to pay $100 for that bag as well. One of my daughters was traveling with us as well. She was standing there looking in disbelief. The agent must’ve read her face and asked her. Did she have anything to say she said no the agent said to her good thing you don’t, because if you did, you wouldn’t be getting on this flight, and it was a group of 10 of us. that was an additional fee of $200.

Frontier has been the worst airline in hidden fees. They get you to buy a ticket that appears cheap but by the time you have to buy the ticket, then buy a seat, then pay for carry on or baggage they become more expensive then many others.

Very deceptive and should be illegal! I also lost my funds when covid hit and we had purchased tickets from them through Travelocity. Of course Travelocity did not do anything for us but Frontier also was able to keep the funds for the tickets. We’ve never received any compensation for those tickets.

We have since had to use Frontier on occasion and have had to pay the excessive fees due to the when and where we were traveling and the options were limited to them. If I ever have a choice I do not fly Frontier.

Put me on the list as part of the class action filing as they are the worst and have taken a lot of additional funding that they did not deserve and were deceptive in raising our costs for these trips.

  3. Ryan Timmerman says:

I purchased 2 tickets from Reno to Las Vegas and had to pay additional fees each way for 1 checked bag.

  4. Maggie Shelton says:

My flight was cancelled and I didn’t receive any refund, please add me to this!!

  5. Chuck says:

Frontier advertised a won’t be beat airfare as a bait-and-switch. The flight was cancelled hours before the scheduled departure, so cancelling the flight and purchasing a flight with a different airlines was cost prohibitive. The next available flight was the following day at 10A, so I stayed the night at the airport.
Please include me in the class action lawsuit and I will make myself available to discuss with an attorney.

  6. Angela says:

U cancell within 24 of booking.. but was denied a refund

  7. Rebecca Evans-Salazar says:

    Add me please.

  8. Bria says:

Took a trip in May this year, They never let you know upfront about the bagging / check in procedure. $100 per person-That’s round trip by the way… Yep that reason alone made that my first and last time flying Frontier.

  9. Mary Rofrano says:

Please tell me how to be included in frontier airlines class action lawsuit. They’ve robbed me of $500 due to bogus fees and misrepresented their policies. It’s not $99 to cancel a flight, it’s like $99 + $200+ in BS fes that they don’t list in their cancellation policy. Not to mention the mental anguish had to endure for 3 days straight to book, change and cancel a flight. Chat is stupid useless waste of time. No phone support, except for firegn scammers that insisted on additional payment of $308 for flight change over a $489 ticket. Chats only write half English sentences. I was totally nonfunctional for days after dealing with them . Yes count me in. Worst business I’ve ever dealt cwith

  10. Caryn McKinney says:

On flight from Hobby airport in Houston TX to Denver, CO on July 6, 2023 I was traveling with my sister and 6 grandchildren ages ( 10-3). We each had our own bags one bag was a carry on that was already paid for, 3 of my grandkids (ages 3, 5, 5) had little bags(personal items) that fit completely underneath the seat in front of them.
The gate agents refused to let us board until we paid $97 ×3.
We have traveled on Frontier 4 other times in the last two years using those same bags and have never had an issue bringing those bags until that night.
I work in the industry as a flight attendant so I’m well aware of the personal item rules and what will fit under the seats and I make sure when we travel we stay within the guidelines.
I hope Frontier Airlines quits scamming people out of money.
