Frontier Airlines misleads consumers into believing they are purchasing lower-priced airfare than they actually are and isn’t upfront about its bag fees, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Amira Hamad claims Frontier “makes up whatever discount it purports” by hitting its customers with “fraudulent and unwarranted charges” related to fees for personal items and checked and carry-on bags.

“FRONTIER’s bait-and-switch and ‘gotcha’ tactics are designed to confuse, trick, and trap consumers to the public’s detriment,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad wants to represent a nationwide class of consumers.

Frontier intentionally hides bag fees, other charges from consumers, class action says

Hamad argues Frontier “does not make its fee structure clear” to its customers at the time they purchase tickets, and that it is even more unclear when a purchase is made with a third-party vendor.

Further, Frontier is accused of intentionally hiding fees from consumers as a way to “fraudulently induce sales.”

“FRONTIER’s fees are not conspicuously shown on its website or on the websites of third-party vendors, and consumers are often unaware of FRONTIER’s large and plentiful fees until after they purchase a ticket that initially appeared attractive,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad claims Frontier is guilty of breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation, under Florida common law, and of violating the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and Florida laws regarding misleading advertising.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory relief along with an award of actual and punitive damages for herself and all class members.

In another case involving a company called Frontier, a class action lawsuit was filed against Frontier Communications in 2020 by a consumer arguing the cable company charges more than what its customers agreed to pay for its services.

Literally have a fear of flying Frontier, not because of the plane ride but Literally the confrontations I’ve had at the gate over bags. Once had an empty backpack they fought with me over putting it in the bin. I unzipped it and turned it upside down they told me I would be banned if I didn’t comply with the bin policy.

  2. Debra Aughenbaugh says:

I have serious shoulder injury because Frontier Gate attendees at DIA forced me a 57 year old Disabled vet to pick up my Samsonite Underseat Spinner bag to measure in their box and it got stuck and I had to put my arms inside the box on both sides to reach underneath it and heave it out all the while being barked orders out and harassed. I felt like I was in boot camp! Now I am dealing with these injuries. I have several emails back and forth with Frontier “customer Care” and they gave me $150 flight credit. Please if anyone can help me it is very much appreciated.

I was charged $500 for my seats, carry ons and suitcases for 2 people. Even though I paid through a 3rd party and they lost my luggage and still have not reimbursed me for the inconvenience of not having my luggage on the trip. They won’t answer a single email I send them.

  6. Erica L Thomas says:

I had this exact thing happen to me, on a return flight (with the same bag) while I watched them allow people in with bags way bigger than mine.

  7. Braeden Richards says:

I have flown with frontier a few times.

  8. Rose M Parks says:

Please add me- I purchased a ticket that to fly into Milwaukee I supposed to of had a 13 hour Kay over in Den5which ended up being g a 24 hour in which I ended up paying in additional fee of 200.00 never again will they beat me out if my hard earned money.

  9. Patricia Ryan says:

I flew Frontier Airlines from Detroit to Denver this past May. 2023. No problem going. Return trip was delayed for more than seven hours, not due to weather. No gate agents to talk to unless you paid, Gaye switched more than once, added charge for checking my own luggage, then they only wanted to give me a $100 voucher to fly later when I filed a complaint. No way, will never fly this airline again. They don’t want to compensate me and furthermore too many additional fees…

  10. Sherry A Hall says:

I purchased 2 tickets in March 2023 and was shocked to be charged an additional $80 each to choose a seat. We opted out of bringing luggage due to the fees. The aisles were so narrow and the flight attendant was rude and ignored us yet served everyone else. I will not fly Frontier again. Southwest or jetblue are much cheaper and better.
