Frontier Airlines misleads consumers into believing they are purchasing lower-priced airfare than they actually are and isn’t upfront about its bag fees, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Amira Hamad claims Frontier “makes up whatever discount it purports” by hitting its customers with “fraudulent and unwarranted charges” related to fees for personal items and checked and carry-on bags.

“FRONTIER’s bait-and-switch and ‘gotcha’ tactics are designed to confuse, trick, and trap consumers to the public’s detriment,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad wants to represent a nationwide class of consumers.

Frontier intentionally hides bag fees, other charges from consumers, class action says

Hamad argues Frontier “does not make its fee structure clear” to its customers at the time they purchase tickets, and that it is even more unclear when a purchase is made with a third-party vendor.

Further, Frontier is accused of intentionally hiding fees from consumers as a way to “fraudulently induce sales.”

“FRONTIER’s fees are not conspicuously shown on its website or on the websites of third-party vendors, and consumers are often unaware of FRONTIER’s large and plentiful fees until after they purchase a ticket that initially appeared attractive,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad claims Frontier is guilty of breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation, under Florida common law, and of violating the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and Florida laws regarding misleading advertising.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory relief along with an award of actual and punitive damages for herself and all class members.

In another case involving a company called Frontier, a class action lawsuit was filed against Frontier Communications in 2020 by a consumer arguing the cable company charges more than what its customers agreed to pay for its services.

My daughter and I flew to Las Vegas in February using this airline. Worst experience EVER!!!! Two out of five Kiosk now working. That’s how you must check in. Everything cost extra!!! We, along with at least 15 other passengers missed our flight by 5 minutes. Two people working the counter if you can call it working. This airline is by no means cheaper!!!

I get so frustrated with Frontier. They end up charging way more than what they advertise which is false advertisement. I am so glad someone finally called them out. Its a total rip off. I purchased 2 roundtrips and 2 single trips. Please return my money.

They are notorious for overcharging on everything. I’ve even had issues with their app while boarding where it was displaying my boarding pass and the young lady tapped my phone it exited out of the app and wouldn’t display pass she made me get out of line I had to pay for a printed pass I’m still going through hell on a refund from a flight they canceled out April 2023 while we were at airport and I was told by the supervisor if I purchased ticket on another carrier which I did on front of her that per their policy I would be reimbursed for that ticket purchase she gave me a card with the flyfrontier.com refund with qr scan code etc…needless to say I’ve yet to be refunded

Their advertised fees do not come close to representing what you actually pay. Charging for a seat in addition to what you pay for your flight?!? And they charge extra if you need ‘agent assistance’ and can’t self serve via their app which seems like a great opportunity to take advantage of the elderly. I can’t believe that these fine-print practices aren’t regulated in airlines like they are with banks.

  9. Maggie Schriver says:

I just flew home last week from Florida visiting my children 🧒. I’m a senior citizen and on fixed income and my daughter suggested Frontier because they are cheaper. Well my RT ticket was just under $96. My carry on for round trip was $138. More than my ticket and my seat round trip was $84. This was just unacceptable. Never again. They don’t let you know all this until after you buy your tickets. Also going and coming back I had 4 and 5 hour delay.

I became member in 2022 and my baggage was supposed to be for free and they charge me every single time
