Frontier Airlines misleads consumers into believing they are purchasing lower-priced airfare than they actually are and isn’t upfront about its bag fees, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Amira Hamad claims Frontier “makes up whatever discount it purports” by hitting its customers with “fraudulent and unwarranted charges” related to fees for personal items and checked and carry-on bags.

“FRONTIER’s bait-and-switch and ‘gotcha’ tactics are designed to confuse, trick, and trap consumers to the public’s detriment,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad wants to represent a nationwide class of consumers.

Frontier intentionally hides bag fees, other charges from consumers, class action says

Hamad argues Frontier “does not make its fee structure clear” to its customers at the time they purchase tickets, and that it is even more unclear when a purchase is made with a third-party vendor.

Further, Frontier is accused of intentionally hiding fees from consumers as a way to “fraudulently induce sales.”

“FRONTIER’s fees are not conspicuously shown on its website or on the websites of third-party vendors, and consumers are often unaware of FRONTIER’s large and plentiful fees until after they purchase a ticket that initially appeared attractive,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad claims Frontier is guilty of breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation, under Florida common law, and of violating the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and Florida laws regarding misleading advertising.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory relief along with an award of actual and punitive damages for herself and all class members.

In another case involving a company called Frontier, a class action lawsuit was filed against Frontier Communications in 2020 by a consumer arguing the cable company charges more than what its customers agreed to pay for its services.

  1. Isabelle Miller says:

Our Frontier flight to Orlando was cancelled mere hours before departure was scheduled (it was a 6 am flight so we didn’t even find out until we woke up around 3:30). Went to the airport to see what could be done only to find a completely empty ticket counter with no Frontier workers to be found in the airport. Ended up renting a van and driving 25+ hours from Grand Rapids to Orlando and made it to our cruise port 45 minutes before it left. Safe to say we will NEVER be putting our vacations in the hands of Frontier again. Our flight back wasn’t the most ideal either, but nothing compared to the nightmare for our flight there. They also charge “assist fees” and for physical boarding passes ($25 EACH). Not to mention several other hidden fees. Their ticket agents get commission on all upcharges so they are ruthless with the them. Fly with ANYONE else. You won’t regret it.

    1. Roger Mahon says:

How are their fees “hidden” as I see them all clearly shown on the website as I’m booking my tickets?

  2. Tina says:

We flew on frontier 6/1/23 then back on 6/6/23 from orlando to las vegas, it was a nightmare with extra fees for seats , baggage and was told when you buy your ticket you are paying for your transportation not your seat, then asked for assistance was told it would be $25, then got charged for 2 airports that i never went too they called them airport usage fees and all this both ways so double for 3 people each. Never ever again it is skyway robbery at its best.

  3. Patti Ford says:

I flew on Frontier round trip from 4/21 to 5/5 n it was a nightmare! Sure the trip was cheap but all the add on fees: baggage, seats, drinks (soda) made it more expensive, n the crew wasn’t even nice. I could have flown w my favorite airline for less money.
My mind told me it wasn’t a good fit, but because of the price, I said okay not realizing I would have to pay for other “luxuries” n that was my 1st n last time I ever used them.

  4. Gloria Tavarez says:

My husband and grandson were glying out from den er to puerto rico on june 26, 2023. My husband is not a technical person, so I asked the agent to please print the bording passes. I was charged $25 a boarding pass, since it was 2 I paid $50!!! We are not flying Frontier ever again!!!

  5. Ahmaya says:

Frontier airlines is so dirty, unprofessional, and they are thieves! I want in on the lawsuit also!

  6. Larry says:

If you plan ahead, it can be an ok deal. But if your bringing luggage, your better off with Delta. I fly a few times every year between Detroit and Phoenix, so I leave clothes/shoes/necessities at a relatives place in Detroit. I bring my medications, a fully charged phone with a couple movies on it, and I buy something to drink in the terminal for the flight. I also don’t care where I sit. So for me, I can deal with it for 3 1/2 hours in exchange for the cheap flight. They will nickel and dime you for everything. The only thing you get to bring for free is a small personal item about the size of a purse. If I have to go anywhere that I have to bring luggage I don’t even look at Frontier. If I book through Delta on my AMMEX, I get a free bag, a carry on, they have movies in the seat backs, and the seats actually recline. Frontier is basically a city bus with wings. All the seats are th same, and they have far fewer flights so if something happens you may be stuck for a while. If you’re paying for a bag and a carry on, you’re far better off just going through Delta.

  7. Marsha Lockett says:

I don’t like Frontier. I had to cancel my flight because of a family emergency and they would not refund or give me a flight credit. So I had to deal with the devastation of the tragedy and losing almost $500. They are ridiculous. I wrote the CEO and of course I didn’t get a response.

  8. Leslie Craig Show says:

    They Stuck it to Me.
I want in on the lawsuit

    1. Kyle Blietz says:

Me too. I’m so fed up.

  9. Tim Mullen says:

Don’t even start me on flight credits for cancelled flights not being able to be used towards anything but the ticket cost. By keeping the ticket cost low they ensure you are never going to be reimbursed and they will make all their money up on baggage and other extraneous fees. Happy to be added to this. Have flown frontier a lot in recent years.

  10. Richard Rudolph says:

I got totally ripped off by Frontier. I booked two tickets to Puerto Rico 5 months in advance. Shortly after the reservation, I needed to cancel because I could not make the trip. There was no refund and they kept my $800. Then you know they resold the seats for added profit.
