Frontier Airlines misleads consumers into believing they are purchasing lower-priced airfare than they actually are and isn’t upfront about its bag fees, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Amira Hamad claims Frontier “makes up whatever discount it purports” by hitting its customers with “fraudulent and unwarranted charges” related to fees for personal items and checked and carry-on bags.

“FRONTIER’s bait-and-switch and ‘gotcha’ tactics are designed to confuse, trick, and trap consumers to the public’s detriment,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad wants to represent a nationwide class of consumers.

Frontier intentionally hides bag fees, other charges from consumers, class action says

Hamad argues Frontier “does not make its fee structure clear” to its customers at the time they purchase tickets, and that it is even more unclear when a purchase is made with a third-party vendor.

Further, Frontier is accused of intentionally hiding fees from consumers as a way to “fraudulently induce sales.”

“FRONTIER’s fees are not conspicuously shown on its website or on the websites of third-party vendors, and consumers are often unaware of FRONTIER’s large and plentiful fees until after they purchase a ticket that initially appeared attractive,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad claims Frontier is guilty of breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation, under Florida common law, and of violating the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and Florida laws regarding misleading advertising.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory relief along with an award of actual and punitive damages for herself and all class members.

In another case involving a company called Frontier, a class action lawsuit was filed against Frontier Communications in 2020 by a consumer arguing the cable company charges more than what its customers agreed to pay for its services.

I encountered this in September of 2021 and January of 2022. My airline ticket was supposed to be $16. I ended up paying $84.60 the seat or my flight turned out to be $33.30 and the taxes and other charges which was called carrier imposed fees came up to$ 51.30 . Then there were the other charges of picking your seat and the luggage and there is like a list of other things that should have been included in the flight price but weren’t and my layover stated a certain time frame and I was in the Denver airport for 27 hours which it cost me even more money because I lost my valuable time and that wasn’t a hidden fee but it was just extra and more of a disappointment and the airports don’t have blankets or pillows. They say ask your airline or ticket agents over at the counters in the airport and I did and they said they don’t furnish those items for their customers in the airport

I have flown Frontier — yes they are confusing at least. Definitely bait and switch tactics. Way more confusing than Allegiant (the other “cheapo” airline). You start out thinking you’re getting a great price then find out all the add on charges.

  6. Jamie says:

Add me! I got their credit card to get points for free travel. But its not free after you pick your seats and pay for baggage. It costs more for “free” travel with frontier than paying for another airline.

I fly frontier and they will advertise flights for 18.00 with discount den but when you go to book theirs no flights. The baggage prices constantly go up and if your bringing a personal item they make you every time put it in their little box before you can board the plane and they are not nice about it. I almost want to take a tape measure and measure the box. If its not completely flush you will have to pay 100.00. Then trying to use you points on elite status your supposed to get a free seat. That doesn’t happen. Kids fly free that to is always a phone call to customer service because web site over charges. And all their misc. Taxes they keep putting on the bill at the end I can’t even begin to understand.
