Frontier Airlines misleads consumers into believing they are purchasing lower-priced airfare than they actually are and isn’t upfront about its bag fees, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Amira Hamad claims Frontier “makes up whatever discount it purports” by hitting its customers with “fraudulent and unwarranted charges” related to fees for personal items and checked and carry-on bags.

“FRONTIER’s bait-and-switch and ‘gotcha’ tactics are designed to confuse, trick, and trap consumers to the public’s detriment,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad wants to represent a nationwide class of consumers.

Frontier intentionally hides bag fees, other charges from consumers, class action says

Hamad argues Frontier “does not make its fee structure clear” to its customers at the time they purchase tickets, and that it is even more unclear when a purchase is made with a third-party vendor.

Further, Frontier is accused of intentionally hiding fees from consumers as a way to “fraudulently induce sales.”

“FRONTIER’s fees are not conspicuously shown on its website or on the websites of third-party vendors, and consumers are often unaware of FRONTIER’s large and plentiful fees until after they purchase a ticket that initially appeared attractive,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad claims Frontier is guilty of breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation, under Florida common law, and of violating the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and Florida laws regarding misleading advertising.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory relief along with an award of actual and punitive damages for herself and all class members.

In another case involving a company called Frontier, a class action lawsuit was filed against Frontier Communications in 2020 by a consumer arguing the cable company charges more than what its customers agreed to pay for its services.

I also purchased the wild pass and I’m not able to book a flight! It says wild pass option is not available but you are able to purchase a ticket! Still waiting on a class action suit in regards to the wild pass! I want a refund but have not received yet! Frontier is a scam! Do not buy wild pass!

This is the WORST airline- here’s our ruined vacation thanks to them- I’ve flown United, Delta, American, southwest, Alaskan air, Hawaiian, and I’ve NEVER had this bad of service. We lost a day in the front end, because there was no one at the counter in Raleigh two hours in advance for check in- we stood there at the empty counter waiting – tried to call – oh no humans work here. Then when someone did show 40 min before flight they rudely instructed that we should’ve checked in online. Rebooked us to next day without even an apology. then we had to cancel rental car, cancel air bnb, change our plans, etc. we changed our tickets to add a day to the back end of our vacation with the full understanding that all of my prepaid fees would move over one day (two bags checked, two seats bought together – oh yeah, that’s how they get you- they charge for EVERYTHING! MY SEAT PURCHASES didn’t transfer-!but the bags did- however- their website said you have to purchase carry ons, so I bought one for my husband and one for me- and then was told at checkin that we didn’t need to do that- but they wouldn’t give a refund. now, on the way back, my baggage – from a direct flight- is missing – along with about 30 other passengers. No apology, no refund offered. NO BAGS. Just a rude counter agent in Raleigh NC asking all of us if we were sure we got to the carousel in time. I asked for a refund via their chat- the only way to communicate with them- good luck with that. While I waited 22 min for an agent to join the chat, then asked to speak to a human I was informed that Frontier doesn’t do that- I can email or chat about my concerns online. My bags were coming from a direct flight from Denver to Raleigh!

I also purchased a ticket thru frontier, because it was urgent I get home. It was much cheapier than Delta so I booked it. Then when I went to finalize my booking I was informed now to purchase my seat to denver than my seat to Knoxville and had to do the same on my way back home. I ended up paying more for my ticket thru them than I would have paid thru Delta. Frontier offers u nothing free. No way will I ever, ever fly Frontier The flight was always hours late and never very informative about what was going on. So, for me I will never be there customer ever again.

  4. Diana says:

I was told all flights were canceled for 2 days then offered the same seat and flight for an additional $1,000 more. The cheap flight advertise $110 cost over $900 with their extra fees.

My husband and I but two tickets Texas from Arizona to attend our daughter’s wedding. We got a great deal and I could not believe our luck! However, upon arrival at the airport I was informed that the bag was separate and would cost $99. Lesson learned, on the return flight I purchased two more tickets and paid the extra money to be able to have my bags included. It also offered that we had a flight cancellation guarantee. They’re no fault of our own, we were held up by TSA and we’re unable to make the flight and thus, had to purchase another ticket to accommodate coming home. And was advised that I didn’t meet their time frames. There was something about a 24-hour window where I was to report the missed flight. I went back and forth for over a week and by the time I was able to speak with a real person, and eventually a supervisor, I was told there was nothing that could be done. Frontier, shame on you!

On a flight from Miami, I was flying with a small suitcase that I have traveled with for a couple of years. The suitcase meets personal item guidelines and I have never had an issue with it before. On this flight however, the gate agent made me size my bag in the box. It didn’t fit. It has always fit before. I ended up paying an extra $99 to check the bag. I paid it because I needed to get home. For the price I paid, I could have flown Delta. So long Frontier.

  7. KB says:

People are too lazy or too stupid to read everything on a website. I fly frontier frequently and have never been charged a fee i didn’t understand. And the person that claimed they were charger for a carry on and seat selection AFTER they bought their ticket… i don’t see how thats even possible on their website. It goes step by step, even telling you it will be more expensive if you purchase later. Everyone wants everything for nothing. Those days are over.

  8. Vince says:

Facts! I bought 2 tickets from Denver to Atlanta. Decent price. Much cheaper than united, who I usually travel with. Got confused about bag prices so had to call and see what the deal was. $89 for a carry on. Total rip off! Was told when I called that I had to pay for my seat? At this point I’m totally confused because I had already purchased 2 tickets. They said there was a $40 fee for each seat that I chose when I purchased my tickets that they don’t charge until you’re checking in and getting your tickets. Otherwise, the tickets were just for random seats. The bag fees are ridiculous. By the time I was done, my tickets ended up being more than if I flew a different airline that showed upfront fees. They’re thieves in the worst sense of the word. Will never fly frontier again.

Everything that’s being said is true they charged me for a bag I had originally put under my seat. 89$ to be exact and it fit under my seat going and coming. They picked out of the line and said I had to check my bag. I will never fly with them again. My first time was Memorial Day weekend.
