Frontier Airlines misleads consumers into believing they are purchasing lower-priced airfare than they actually are and isn’t upfront about its bag fees, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Amira Hamad claims Frontier “makes up whatever discount it purports” by hitting its customers with “fraudulent and unwarranted charges” related to fees for personal items and checked and carry-on bags.

“FRONTIER’s bait-and-switch and ‘gotcha’ tactics are designed to confuse, trick, and trap consumers to the public’s detriment,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad wants to represent a nationwide class of consumers.

Frontier intentionally hides bag fees, other charges from consumers, class action says

Hamad argues Frontier “does not make its fee structure clear” to its customers at the time they purchase tickets, and that it is even more unclear when a purchase is made with a third-party vendor.

Further, Frontier is accused of intentionally hiding fees from consumers as a way to “fraudulently induce sales.”

“FRONTIER’s fees are not conspicuously shown on its website or on the websites of third-party vendors, and consumers are often unaware of FRONTIER’s large and plentiful fees until after they purchase a ticket that initially appeared attractive,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad claims Frontier is guilty of breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation, under Florida common law, and of violating the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and Florida laws regarding misleading advertising.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory relief along with an award of actual and punitive damages for herself and all class members.

In another case involving a company called Frontier, a class action lawsuit was filed against Frontier Communications in 2020 by a consumer arguing the cable company charges more than what its customers agreed to pay for its services.

  1. Jay G Hulet says:

My wife and I flew on Frontier Airlines for the first time ever on June 24th, returning on July 5th – 6th (due to departure delays) . We were shocked at the charged fees for one piece of checked luggage each, which was more than the plane ticket. When we boarded the plane, there were several attendants forcing customers to pay $80 or more for turning their personal item bags like a small backpack into a carry on bag – I’d say at least 30% of passengers boarding the plane, who have no choice at that point and must pay-up or not fly and lose all of their money. My wife and I wondered aloud what the motive was of the airline to treat their customers so poorly. I’d be surprised if even 20% of passengers would ever fly with them again after seeing that. When I tried to check in online, which I’ve done 100s of times with other airlines, they kept trying to push all kinds of fees for regular services which are expected from most carriers. At one point, it wouldn’t let me check in unless I clearly stated that I didn’t want to pay extra for someone to help me board the plane. Further, the check-in process was so complicated that I thought that I had completed it with one checked bag each. But when my wife looked at it several hours later, it showed that we did not have one checked bag each and we’d be charged an even higher fee if we waited until we got to the airport. She re-checked us in. After they delayed our flight past midnight and we boarded the plane, the seats were crammed, the seats would not recline and the trays were tiny, plus no on-board services. We also spent an extra hour while packing our bags, trying to not overdo the 40 lb. checked luggage requirement, that more than doubles in fees for any weight over 40 lbs. We were forced to carry some regular suitcase items in our personal bag and wear sweaters in the summer in Phoenix. We both vowed to never fly with Frontier again. We thought that we were getting a good deal initially with Frontier but later discovered that we paid much more than Southwest Airlines that includes 2 checked bags of 50 lbs each.

Rafael Eduardo Cotes Figueroa Hey I flew on Frontier on 9mar sju- mia- sju this year . Confirmation # IJWMNB
I think that same happened to me

  3. Ed fisher says:

Frontier Airlines when you go on a website that advertises let’s say $90 from Orlando to Trenton New Jersey when you fill out all the information required when you click on submit payment they automatically say that fare has changed and it’s now $120 more except or opt out
No I thought that was quite unusual until I did it on five different sites and each site told me that the price had gone up while I was filling out my itinerary and couldn’t get the posted advertised fair … then on top of that they had $32 because you’re using a site that is not frontier Airlines. What the hell is going on?

  4. Gigi says:

It is shocking at the total amount of tickets that seem inexpensive when they post their fares.

  5. Ron Paul says:

Yeah I fell for their scam as well. I’d rather pay double somewhere else than feel like I’m being taken advantage of they misleading advertisement.

I bought Go Wild Fly all what you Want. I have not found yet, a Go Wild Fly, and I paid Frontier $399.00

  6. Niel Richards says:

Frontier is fraudulent in many areas. They have the same agent at the Check-in counter that starts the boarding process. This leads to the ticket counter to close earlier than usual. I live in MD but want in on the Frontier Class action suit. Please provide the law firm who is spearheading this action.

    1. Regina stuart says:

Yes please add me in this class action case because I been saying this for the longest I made plenty of flights with them.

    2. Mandy Holman says:

You are completely wrong. When the counter agent goes to the gate, it’s after the counter closes.

  7. Angela Polhill-Payne says:

I agree with all of you, my flight was late getting in for a trip to ORD and then we had to wait for the very RUDE gate agent to make sure every bag fit in the slot!!!! That took another 25 minutes to board. Almost missed my connection because of it. He evan had a lady but her little toys bag in there to make sure it fit. There was a guy who put his in the slot and it fit, I saw it, but the gate agent was not looking and yelled at him to put it in there or he was not boarding!!!!! I yelled “ if you have been looking and not harassing the old lady with her tote bag you would’ve seen that it fit the first time!”

  8. David Harrison says:

So purchased my flight on Expedia for 555 total that’s flight plus hotel. I flew in with American Airlines and flew out Frontier which was a 0 dollar flight. When check in arrived I ended up paying another 200plus with bags and seat selection which didn’t show up on Expedia’s check out like other flights. When it was time to leave the airline was delayed more than 6 hrs. We was suppose to leave at 1 but didn’t leave until 7pm. We didn’t get an update and the email update that we got was was 5 min until departure or after suspected departure date. They even changed my departure gate from D16 to D16. They kept telling the flight that it was leaving in a minute which wasn’t true. It left at 7 we got a 10 dollar voucher for food which wouldn’t even cover a meal at the airport. And 75 dollar voucher toward next trip which has to be used in 3 months or we loose it.

  9. Carreatha Y Thomas says:

I purchased a ticket in April 2023 I paid for luggage upfront. Got to the airport and I had to pay another $50 for my luggage. In 2022 I had a bookbag that was a carry on and I had to pay $76 both way. Frontier is making a lot of money and you can’t even get a free soda

  10. Crystal C says:

They ruined our son’s wheelchair. We filed a claim. They said they would email us the way to get it fixed. Never did. Their baggage fees are not a set price and can change in the process of booking a flight, depending on where you are flying and how busy the flight is. That is dishonest! They don’t care. We will not fly them again because of their dishonest practices, lack of communication options, and gouging of customers. They are out to make a buck, nothing more.
