Frontier Airlines misleads consumers into believing they are purchasing lower-priced airfare than they actually are and isn’t upfront about its bag fees, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Amira Hamad claims Frontier “makes up whatever discount it purports” by hitting its customers with “fraudulent and unwarranted charges” related to fees for personal items and checked and carry-on bags.

“FRONTIER’s bait-and-switch and ‘gotcha’ tactics are designed to confuse, trick, and trap consumers to the public’s detriment,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad wants to represent a nationwide class of consumers.

Frontier intentionally hides bag fees, other charges from consumers, class action says

Hamad argues Frontier “does not make its fee structure clear” to its customers at the time they purchase tickets, and that it is even more unclear when a purchase is made with a third-party vendor.

Further, Frontier is accused of intentionally hiding fees from consumers as a way to “fraudulently induce sales.”

“FRONTIER’s fees are not conspicuously shown on its website or on the websites of third-party vendors, and consumers are often unaware of FRONTIER’s large and plentiful fees until after they purchase a ticket that initially appeared attractive,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad claims Frontier is guilty of breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation, under Florida common law, and of violating the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and Florida laws regarding misleading advertising.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory relief along with an award of actual and punitive damages for herself and all class members.

In another case involving a company called Frontier, a class action lawsuit was filed against Frontier Communications in 2020 by a consumer arguing the cable company charges more than what its customers agreed to pay for its services.

  1. Stacy l coleman says:

Totally agree with the comments I’ve read here. I flew in June and was very surprised at how the employees were so rude, no matter what you need or why you need it there is an additional charge for EVERYTHING. I started about paying $198 round-trip and was over $500 by the time I actually got done with everything. Constant delays, changes, text messages non-stop….very frustrating.

  2. Shelly T. says:

Yes Frontier flights are the same as United.. There aren’t any discounts

  3. silva Echavarria says:

I paid for baggage at check in and they said they didn’t see it in their system and made me pay $200. I had the receipt. They had already charged me $165. I ended up paying $450 for luggage. They’re definitely predators. I will never fly Frontier again.

I am desperately awaiting a class action lawsuit against frontier regarding their Go Wild pass!!! IT is highly misleading! 1. They block flights for use of the pass, but open for pay, 2. They charge extra even when using go wild and 3. The flights that MAY be open are for extensive layovers! I want a refund, bur have not received. So fraudulent! Frontier is a joke

I have also flown with Frontier. They do mislead you into thinking that you’re purchasing a low-priced airline ticket, but when you check out, you pay way more than what was told. Then when you do pay for a checked luggage and go to check it in, they say either we don’t see where you purchased a checked luggage or you have to pay a little more plus the layovers are extremely long. I had took a flight from DWF to CMH in December 2022 and my flight was delayed because of a storm which was ok. Then I had a layover in Orlando, Fl. By the time we got there we all had to run to the boarding gate. We get on the plane only to be delayed another 4 hours just sitting on the plane for unknown reasons. We tried to get off so that we can charge up or phones to let our families know what was going on. They told us that if we got off (which we was told that we was delayed for an hour) that we had to purchase another ticket. We weren’t even offered any snacks or something to drink for the delay. Keep in mind that we had to sit on this plane for 4 hours. They never told us what the hold-up was until we were about to take off and what we were told was something was wrong with one of the toilets. We asked if there were going to be any type of compensation and they told us yes just to call customer service. I called them and reached out yet here it is July 2023 and yet I still haven’t heard anything back from customer service or anything. This airline is a total disaster and joke!

  5. MCB says:

I am still waiting on my refund from January 2023. My mom got ill and was unable to fly home with us from our vacation. They said they would give her credit to fly when she was ready to go home. The flight would leave them in the airport for 2 days, she was sick. We got her another flight on another airline and the ticket agent at Frontier cancelled my parents ticket and said we would receive a refund. I spoke to Frontier at our local airport when my parents came home and they told me I would receive a refund, I am still waiting! They don’t have a way to get a hold of them (that I can find at least). Never flying with them every again no matter how cheap they are! Their extra charges are absolutely ridiculous and just taking advantage of people.

    1. Dina Aduddell says:

They talk about 29.00 fares and now their flights are in the 100s of dollars. I fly them frequently, however; I refuse to fly with them until they bring back the low fares. I want in on this lawsuit.

  6. M says:

I would love to join in the lawsuit. I overheard the counter agent speak on how they get commissions when they charge us at the gate, the outrageous fees in my last Houston Texas trip.

  7. Sami Wanner says:

I was ready, I bought a bag that met the requirements and let them choose my seat. Still they forced the entire plane to measure their bags despite the plane being late they chose to delay us even longer so they could collect a tiny bit more money. They are not worth the minuscule savings.

  8. SHALITHYA J STEWART says:

    Yes. I’ve purchased a few

  9. John Bonislawski says:

Totally agree! The initial fee pops up and feel great about it!! UNTIL?? All the add-ons with tricky wording and description of baggage fees and sizes is crazy! Deceptive sales and fees is a cause for alarm to any and all!! Shame on you Frontier!! Shame on you!!

  10. William L. Moore says:

I bought a ticket and ended up getting another because of their exchange policy. They want even issue credit.
