Frontier Airlines misleads consumers into believing they are purchasing lower-priced airfare than they actually are and isn’t upfront about its bag fees, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Amira Hamad claims Frontier “makes up whatever discount it purports” by hitting its customers with “fraudulent and unwarranted charges” related to fees for personal items and checked and carry-on bags.

“FRONTIER’s bait-and-switch and ‘gotcha’ tactics are designed to confuse, trick, and trap consumers to the public’s detriment,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad wants to represent a nationwide class of consumers.

Frontier intentionally hides bag fees, other charges from consumers, class action says

Hamad argues Frontier “does not make its fee structure clear” to its customers at the time they purchase tickets, and that it is even more unclear when a purchase is made with a third-party vendor.

Further, Frontier is accused of intentionally hiding fees from consumers as a way to “fraudulently induce sales.”

“FRONTIER’s fees are not conspicuously shown on its website or on the websites of third-party vendors, and consumers are often unaware of FRONTIER’s large and plentiful fees until after they purchase a ticket that initially appeared attractive,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad claims Frontier is guilty of breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation, under Florida common law, and of violating the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and Florida laws regarding misleading advertising.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory relief along with an award of actual and punitive damages for herself and all class members.

In another case involving a company called Frontier, a class action lawsuit was filed against Frontier Communications in 2020 by a consumer arguing the cable company charges more than what its customers agreed to pay for its services.

  1. Lori Harmon says:

We have several stories about Frontier airlines… and they’re all bad experiences! Most recently our flight was cancelled last minute into Orlando for no apparent reason. Luckily we were able to quickly book another flight so we didn’t miss our cruise the next day. However, Frontier still managed to charge us after the fact for our bags for a flight we didn’t take. Then on our return flight home they charged us a $25 fee (granted that isn’t a lot of money but it’s the principle) because after dozens of attempts the kiosks would not print our baggage tags. So, when we checked our bags they charged us $25 to print them for us. Even though we explained there was a problem with the kiosks?! That trip was just 2 weeks ago and I can honestly say everyone we spoke to at the airports was just as disgusted with Frontier as we were! And we all swore that was the last time we’d book with them!!

I travelled with Frontier in February of this year for a funeral and my flight was delayed 3 times. My luggage was also damaged and when I tried locating a representative at the arriving airport in Phoenix, I was not able to report the damage that had been done to my luggage to anyone. The fees were ridiculous as well!

  3. Timothy Ernest says:

They canceled my flight at last minute .. do gave me a free voucher for “100 dollars”. Later when I used the Frontoer voucher for a trip, I was supposed to pay only 28 dollars for a 128 dollar flight because I used the voucher. Guess what? Those evil $ grubbing monsters at Frontier charged Me 100 dollars , and so lied by giving me only the 28 dollar voucher credit !!!!! They were tricky and dishonest.

  4. Marjorie Williams says:

I have had same/ similar issues with Frontier Airlines. I always carried the same bag on the airplane. This one time the employees checking me in stated that my bag was too big and ended up charging me $90.00 at the gate. Recently, I traveled Fronofor a funeral. I did not pay for a seat but I paid for priority boarding. On my boarding pass it listed gate D1. I was at the airport from 4:30 am for a flight that was boarding at 7:12 am. I did it just because I know frontier operates sneaky. After waiting at the gate with several other passengers with no frontier employee to ask questions I decided to go to spirit airlines next door and see if they can assist me with telling me if there is a gate change. The spirit employee told me that the gate was changed to E33. At this time I had only a few minutes to ran through the corridor to catch the Tran (Atlanta airport) to get to the E gate and walked miles to gate E33 at which time priority boarding was already called. As a result I paid for priority boarding which I never got. This is a total disgrace I am 60 years old without any medical problems so I was able to run like the wind to catch the flight. What if I had medical problems and was even older. Just imagine what would have happened. I want to be a part of this class action law suit because I have been affected by this airline too many times. I even had another situation coming back from my uncle’s funeral about 2 years ago where frontier airlines was delayed for over 3 hours. This is disgraceful and totally unacceptable.

  5. Joy says:

I might be the only one that have no problems with Frontier. I’ve encountered delays… but no big deal; it happens with all airlines. As for the additional fees, everything is disclosed on their website. You don’t have to pay for a seat if you let them assign it to you. Even after all the fees, I still find Frontier’s price to be reasonable and affordable for me. Though I do agree that charging for an oversized personal item is ridiculous. I think if it fits under the seat… why make a big deal out of it.

  6. Kristin Schmidt says:

I have TWO stories involving big money and ridiculousness that cost me a flight overseas( Frontier canceled a flight to get me to Boston so I missed and was never reimbursed for a BRITISH AIRWAYS subsequent flight BOS-BER,yet Frontier did 100 percent Nothing to make.up for this major serious real Loss…please let me sue them with You.

  7. Monique Hernandez says:

This exact thing happened twice to me. The first time, was through a third party, so I really b didn’t even n know what charges were for what. Then as I’m checking in, I get hit with a $350 “baggage” fee. At the counter!!! The 2nd time, it was advertised as $248 round trip. After paying n for seating () which I don’t get, because it’s not like you get an option to stand) , and baggage, the flight turned into $687!! WTF??!!

  8. Nikisha Morgan says:

50 vouchers for cancelling flight as soon as we get through TSA then can’t ever use the voucher for shit! I hope they shut down and every plane breaks

  9. Johana Barahona says:

They also cancel my flight 2 hours before departure and I haven’t received my refound, I was flying to Orlando to Disney with my son, I los the money that I had already paid for enter to the park the next day because of this airline

  10. John Johnson says:

It’s 100% misleading. The fact that you have to buy the ticket first, then pay for seats (for each leg) and bags is predatory. A $250 ticket will cost a traveler roughly $450 when it’s all said and done.
