Receipt apps offer cash back or rewards.

For coupon clippers and people who like to find a deal, receipt apps may be another way to save money and earn cash back on purchases. Any of those receipts could be worth a lot more than just a rebate if they show evidence of a FACTA claim.

What Are Receipt Apps?

Receipt apps are apps that allow shoppers to scan their receipts and earn savings or cash back. Some of these apps work by letting shoppers search for offers or deals from their favorite retailers, and then uploading receipts showing the purchase of these items. Within 48 hours of uploading these receipts, shoppers receive cash back for qualifying purchases. Depending on which app you choose, this cash back may be directly deposited into your bank account or given in the form of gift cards. Other apps give users points for certain purchases. These points may be redeemed for gift cards or cash.

There are many receipt apps out there. Some are free, and some may be paid. Some apps may require users to shop at certain retailers, while others simply give users points for purchasing certain items. In addition to items purchased at grocery stores or department stores, some of these apps also give users money back for making purchases at restaurants or pharmacies.

Making Money with Receipt Scanning Apps

In order to make money with receipt saving apps, you may need to spend some time determining which paid or free receipt app is the best choice for you. If you are an extreme coupon clipper, you may want to download several apps in order to track down the most deals.

To decide which app is the best receipt scanning app for you, you may want to consider where you shop and what kinds of rewards you would like to earn. One popular app that offers cash either directly deposited in your bank account or mailed to you via check is Ibotta. For users who prefer to earn points to exchange for gift cards, Fetch Rewards may be the way to go. Some apps, such as ReceiptPal, Checkout 51, Receipt Hog, Coin Out, or BerryCart allow users to choose whether they want to receive cash or a gift card. These apps may let users choose direct deposit, a check, or to cash out their rewards through PayPal.

Receipt apps offer cash back or rewards. How Does Ibotta Work?

In order to begin using Ibotta, you will need to download the app onto your phone and make an account. After you have set up Ibotta, it’s easy to begin saving. Users can find products to earn cash back on by looking under the “Offers” center of the app. Ibotta works by not only requiring users to purchase items, but also to complete certain tasks. By tapping on the products shown in the offers section, users are able to see what they have to do in order to earn rewards. For many products, there are multiple tasks that users can do to earn rewards. These tasks may include taking a survey or poll, watching a video, posting about the product on social media, or writing a comment about the product. In addition to completing one or more of these tasks, users must also purchase the product and then upload their receipt into the app.

After users have uploaded enough receipts to earn at least $20 cashback, they may redeem these rewards via their PayPal account or a gift card.

Is Receipt Hog a Good App?

Receipt Hog works in a similar way to Ibotta. Shoppers who choose Receipt Hog are able to scan and upload their receipts to earn points or coins, which they can then redeem for cash. However, unlike Ibotta, Receipt Hog allows shoppers to earn points for anything they buy. Rather than offering rewards for specific items, Receipt Hog lets shoppers purchase whatever they want at qualifying stores. Once users reach a certain number of earned coins, they can exchange them for cash.

Receipt Hog offers shoppers more points the more they use the app. For the first ten receipts uploaded, users only earn 10 coins per receipt. However, if shoppers continue to upload receipts, they will level up and be able to earn more coins.

Shoppers who use multiple receipt apps to earn cash back may want to use Expensify to keep track of their spending and savings.

How Do You Use Expensify?

Expensify is another app that scans receipts. However, rather than offering users points for their receipts, Expensify can integrate with other applications to keep track of scanned receipts and purchases. For shoppers who use multiple receipt apps, Expensify may be a good way to keep track of how much money they have spent and saved. Additionally, Expensify may be an easy way to save a record of your past receipts. Having a record of your receipts may be helpful in the event that you become a victim of a FACTA violation.

Could Your Receipts Be Worth More than Just a Rebate?

FACTA, or the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003 is a law that requires businesses to protect consumer financial information by truncating their credit card information on receipts. Under FACTA, retailers may only show the final five digits of a credit or debit card number on a receipt, and may not show any part of the expiration date. Shoppers who have a record of their past receipts may be able to review these receipts to ensure that their credit card information has not been compromised by any of the retailers they shop at. Consumers who have had their credit card information exposed by FACTA receipt violations may be eligible to speak with an experienced attorney about their legal options.
