Presidio agreed to pay an undisclosed amount as part of a settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit claiming it negligently failed to protect its employees from a 2020 data breach.

The settlement benefits consumers who Presidio notified that their personal information may have been compromised in a data breach that occurred in March 2020.

Presidio is a tech company that provides cloud, security, collaboration and IT infrastructure through established networks. The company offers a full service approach to its clients to best meet their needs.

In March 2020, third parties reportedly gained access to Presidio’s systems — gaining access to the sensitive information of current and former employees.

According to a class action lawsuit from Presidio employees, workers had to give their personal information to the company to verify their identities and get paid. The breach compromised names, Social Security numbers, compensation data and tax information from employees listed on Presidio’s 2020 payroll report, the class action lawsuit alleges.

This information allegedly found its way into the hands of cybercriminals due to Presidio’s negligence. Plaintiffs say Presidio knew it had a duty to protect sensitive employee data but failed to take reasonable measures to prevent data breaches such as the one that occurred in March 2020. As a result, current and former employees like the plaintiffs will allegedly face the continued threat of fraud and identity theft, amongst other damages.

Presidio hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a class action settlement to resolve these allegations. The settlement fund total is not available in court documents.

Under the terms of the Presidio employees data breach settlement, class members can receive reimbursements for any out-of-pocket expenses they sustained as a result of the data breach. This includes fraudulent charges, falsified tax returns, credit freezing costs and other miscellaneous expenses. Consumers can also claim up to four hours of lost time at a rate of $15 per hour for a maximum lost time payment of $60.

Exact payments will vary, but class members can receive up to $500 total for both out-of-pocket losses and lost time.

The settlement also provides two years of identity protection services through TransUnion’s myTruIdentity. This service includes one-bureau credit monitoring, credit report access and $1 million in insurance for identity theft.

Presidio has also agreed to make its confirmatory discovery available to those who wish to access it. These documents include the company’s response to the data breach and various improvements that have been made since.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Nov. 15, 2022.

The final approval hearing is scheduled for Nov. 30, 2022.

In order to receive benefits from the Presidio employees data breach lawsuit settlement, class members must submit a valid claim form by Nov. 15, 2022.
