Frontier Communications data breach class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Jennifer Myers filed a class action lawsuit against Frontier Communications Parent Inc.
  • Why: Myers claims Frontier failed to put adequate cybersecurity procedures in place to prevent a cyberattack earlier this year that led to a data breach affecting more than 2 million consumers.
  • Where: The Frontier Communications class action lawsuit was filed in Texas federal court.

A new class action lawsuit claims Frontier Communications bears responsibility for a data breach earlier this year that affected more than 2 million consumers.

Plaintiff Jennifer Myers’ class action lawsuit claims Frontier failed to implement “adequate and reasonable” cyber-security procedures and protocols that would have protected the personally identifiable information of consumers from a “foreseeable and preventable” cyberattack.

“Defendant disregarded the rights of Plaintiff and Class Members by, inter alia, intentionally, willfully, recklessly, or negligently failing to take adequate and reasonable measures to ensure its data systems were protected against unauthorized intrusions,” the Frontier Communications class action claims.

Myers wants to represent a nationwide class of consumers who had their personally identifiable information accessed and/or acquired by an unauthorized party as a result of the Frontier data breach in or about March 2024.

Consumers at high risk of fraud, identity theft due to Frontier Communications data breach, class action claims

Myers argues consumers have already experienced identity theft as a result of the data breach and are at a “heightened and imminent risk of fraud and identity theft,” going forward.

“Plaintiff’s and Class Members’ identities are now at risk because of Defendant’s negligent conduct because the PII that Defendant collected and maintained has been accessed and acquired by data thieves,” the Frontier Communications class action says.

Myers claims Frontier is guilty of negligence, negligence per se, breach of implied contract and unjust enrichment. She demands a jury trial and requests declaratory and injunctive relief along with an award of actual, nominal, statutory, consequential and punitive damages for herself and all class members.

In other data breach news, consumers filed at least nine class action lawsuits against AT&T earlier this year following reports of information belonging to more than 70 million of its current and former customers being leaked online.

Yes, I would like to be added. Frontier emailed me of the data breach. And please note, when I signed up to start Frontier, I was strongly advised to pay the extra, I believe about $3-4 / month for security / data protection. So I had been paying that as well in my automatic monthly payments.
