Update:
- The claim deadline has been extended to Oct. 24, 2022.
CentralSquare Technologies LLC has agreed to a $1.9 million settlement resolving a class action lawsuit filed in the wake of a data breach that compromised the credit and debit card information for some customers who paid utility bills through the Click2Gov payment portal.
Consumers whose credit or debit card was used to make payments through the CentralSquare Click2Gov payment portal between Jan. 1, 2017, and Dec. 31, 2019, may qualify for benefits under the CentralSquare class action settlement.
CentralSqure Technologies provides public-sector software solutions, according to its website.
Plaintiffs filed their CentralSquare class action lawsuit after the company announced the data breach in October 2017. Certain municipalities’ customers who made utility bill payments via the Click2Gov portal beginning Jan. 1, 2017, may have had their payment card information compromised in the breach.
CentralSquare denies any allegation of wrongdoing but has agreed to the settlement.
Class members may qualify for one or more tiers of benefits. The first tier provides class members with up to four years of credit monitoring at a discounted rate.
Class members who provide documentation of unreimbursed out-of-pocket expenses or losses in connection with a fraudulent transaction on their payment card may be entitled to reimbursement for their losses.
The CentralSquare Technologies lawsuit settlement also provides a third tier of benefits for class members who spent time addressing fraudulent transactions or monitoring their accounts following the data breach. They may be entitled to a payment of $20 per hour up to a maximum of three hours for the time they spent dealing with potential fraud.
In addition to providing settlement benefits to eligible class members, CentralSquare has also agreed to implement stronger security measures to protect user data.
The company will maintain a hotline for employees to report concerns about CentralSquare’s security systems, engage a third-party vendor to audit its data security, and engage an outside consultant to conduct an annual risk assessment to identify data security risks.
The final fairness hearing will be held Oct. 7, 2022.
Class members who wish to opt out of or object to the CentralSquare Technologies lawsuit settlement must do so no later than July 25, 2022.
The claim form deadline is Oct. 24, 2022.
