Casio was the subject of a data breach sometime before Oct. 11 that impacted the data of customers in 149 countries, the company revealed on its website.

The company says credit card information is not retained in a database and the compromised data includes customer name, email address, country/region of residence, purchasing information and service usage information, such as log data and nicknames.
The Casio data breach compromised 91,921 personal data items from Japanese customers, including individuals and educational institutions. It also includes 35,049 items belonging to customers from 148 other countries and regions.
Casio vows new security measures following data breach
Casio reported the data breach to Japan’s Personal Information Protection Commission Oct. 16.
“Casio will continue to consult with and engage an external security specialist organization to conduct further internal investigations, analyze the root causes, and devise appropriate countermeasures in response to this incident,” the company says on its website. “Casio will also engage an external law firm to consider potential legal steps, including interfacing with the authorities. In addition, Casio is also consulting with the police and will cooperate with the investigation.”
Casio also says it will contact customers whose data was breached via email or other means. Customers can contact Casio about the data breach online here.
Following the incident, Casio vowed to strengthen its security and technical safety management and implement new measures for network routes and databases. It will also review its security operational rules and train employees on the new security measures, it says.
Recent data breaches impacted thousands of individuals across the United States, including health care workers, Texas residents and bankruptcy claimants, among others.
