Zyprexa Heart Failure, Other Side Effects Underlie Difficulties in Treatment

By John Curran

Zyprexa injection injury lawsuitThe news that federal regulators from the Food and Drug Administration are investigating two deaths related to Zyprexa side effects caused by the anti-schizophrenia medication should not be surprising based on the treatment options for those patients who deal with Post-Injection Delirium Sedation Syndrome (PDSS). Doctors have limited ways to alleviate symptoms.

There is no known antidote to PDSS, according to drug maker Eli Lilly. Instead, it recommends that healthcare professionals closely monitor symptoms of Zyprexa side effects and treat each individually. However, using certain adrenaline analogues to treat hypotension and comas is not possible, including epinephrine.

Instead, doctors are asked to use intubation and ventilation if the patient is unable to do so on his or her own, and they must monitor a patient for potential aspiration if they attempt to use adrenaline analogues. These issues and the risk additional Zyprexa side effects like a heart attack can present themselves in as little as three hours following injection, although the two deaths happened several days later.

Zyprexa lawsuit attorneys are likely to cite the fact that the medication is already part of the Food and Drug Administration’s Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy program, although it was approved for use in schizophrenia treatment just four years ago. The REMS program requires follow-up evaluations and significant monitoring and certification for treatment providers.

Eli Lilly said that the incidence of Post-Injection Delirium Sedation Syndrome was roughly two per every patient, or 39 events in 38 patients over the course of more than 2,000 patients. Extrapolating from that statistic, the potential incidence accounting for the 50,000 patients who have used the medication would be in the hundreds.

Symptoms of a Zyprexa heart attack that some patients may have experienced include mild to severe sedation, delirium that could seem like drunkenness as well as convulsions or high blood pressure.

Men and women who took the anti-schizophrenia medication and suffered severe side effects have legal options available to them. A free legal consultation is available at the Zyprexa Injection Heart Attack, Death Class Action Lawsuit Investigation. Potential plaintiffs can establish their eligibility to file a claim with the help of one of our partner Zyprexa lawsuit attorneys.

Since PDSS and other events can occur quickly and require extensive treatment, hospital bills can mount for many patients who also lose time at work while dealing with comas and other developments because of these side effects. Filing a Zyprexa lawsuit is the first step in offsetting those costs.

I was a part of the class action settlement and decided to hire an attorney, which he stated I had a good case and I turned the $33,676 class action amount that was offered, He went to the meeting or hearing in New York and called me from there and asked me what is the amount I would take, after reading about a lady that had less problems from it than I did and she was offered $100,000 up front. The problems I had and went through and are still going through now , you would not believe. But when I told him the amount he had told me he was not familiar with the case, but took it anyway from the beginning, I was skeptible in trusting what to do. So I told him $40,000 and when he returned back to Havelock NC he called me and said he may have to go back, then called me the next day or couple of days and just stated; I cannot handle this case, and I asked what happened and why, He said again! I cannot handle this case with no explanation, and I did not have time to even find another attorney. Now I have heart rate issues that started in 2006 and went through all the same mental issues that I was diagnosed with as a outpatient given zyprexa and given to me next when they admitted me into a mental institution, All those times they kept me on zyprexa. I need a attorney to look into why he walked away from this case after calling me and asking what I would take with no explanation, making me lose out on any monies that I could have gotten, with another attorney or the class action amount, which after hearing all what happen to me , you will know why I wanted to opt out that amount. I have been sick back and forward, why am I able now to submit this information online concerning the heart issue in 2006 that followed.
