Victims of Vaginal Mesh Erosion Seek Help

By Christina Drury

vaginal mesh erosionMany women are in desperate need of help following a transvaginal mesh implant failure that has been ignored by their surgeon or physician. Recipients of these failed implants often suffer from severe infections or a medical condition known as vaginal mesh erosion.

What is Mesh Erosion?

Erosion is a painful complication that occurs when a transvaginal mesh implant, tape or bladder sling fails to properly bind to a woman’s pelvic tissues. When this happens, the body rejects the mesh device that has been sewn into it by a surgeon. As the body rejects the device, the mesh may begin to poke through the vaginal wall and painfully protrude out of the vaginal tissue. This can result in extremely severe pain and a host of other serious symptoms and complications.

Symptoms of Transvaginal Mesh Failures

There are several painful and serious symptoms and complications associated with the failure of a transvaginal mesh implant, bladder sling or tape device. These symptoms include:

  • Hardening of Vaginal Mesh
  • Injury to Organs in close proximity
  • Mesh Erosion
  • Organ Perforation
  • Painful Sexual Intercourse
  • Severe Pelvic Pain
  • Urinary Problems
  • Vaginal Bleeding
  • Vaginal Infections

These complications often lead to multiple corrective surgeries in order to repair the damage that has been caused by the implant.

Recalls Often Go Unnoticed

A problem that many women face is the inability of the FDA and public to spread the word about recalls of failed medical devices. The failure to reach the masses causes many women to needlessly suffer without knowing the magnitude of the problem. Women who have suffered complications as a result of a transvaginal mesh implant are urged to seek legal advice as soon as possible.
