low t lawsuitMany men who experience low testosterone levels choose to go through testosterone replacement therapy, taking low t medication.

Low testosterone levels (officially known as hypogonadism, but more commonly referred to as low t) are treated by low t drugs meant to raise testosterone levels.

Testosterone is responsible for the growth and development of male sex organs, and also factors into a man’s sex drive. It is normal for testosterone levels to fluctuate from day to day, or even hour to hour. For this reason, men who may believe their testosterone levels are low may actually have normal levels the next day.

However, testosterone levels do generally decline after a man reaches the age of thirty. Many men choose to take low t therapy.

Though many men take low t medication to reverse the negative effects of having low t symptoms, some users have come forward alleging that low t medication can also cause serious medical problems.

Low T Medication Side Effects

One of these low t medication side effects is deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which occurs when a blood clot forms in the deep veins of someone’s body. Usually, the clot is located in the legs.

DVT can cause serious leg pain or swelling, but can often go undetected due to its subtle symptoms. Though the symptoms are sometimes unrecognizable, the condition can still be dangerous. DVT clots can break loose and lodge in the lungs, which blocks blood flow and many cause a pulmonary embolism.

Low t drugs have also been connected to a slew of adverse cardiovascular events.

A January 2014 study published in the medical journal PLoSOne on testosterone drug safety revealed that a serious testosterone side effect may be an increased risk of heart attacks. Indeed, the study showed that these kinds of drugs may as much as double the risk of heart attacks in men 65 years old or above.

For younger men who have a prior history of heart disease, the study showed that low t drugs could also increase their risk of heart attacks by as much as double.

Another study, this one done in 2015 and published in the journal Pharmacotherapy, suggested that first time testosterone users may be 40 percent more likely to have a heart attack when compared with men who did not use testosterone drugs.

Low T Therapy Lawsuits

According to testosterone lawsuits, drug companies responsible for low t medication had a duty to warn the public and the medical community of the risk of serious medical conditions such as heart attack, stroke, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and/or death that are associated with low t drugs.

The plaintiffs in these testosterone lawsuits allege that these companies failed to provide adequate warnings concerning the risk of these medical conditions, and even failed to update warnings based on information from product surveillance and studies after the FDA’s approval.

If you or someone you know has taken low t therapy and has suffered from low t side effects or complications such as deep vein thrombosis, heart attack, or stroke, you may be able to file a lawsuit.
