New Lawsuit Filed Over Mirena IUD Uterus Perforation
By John Curran
A woman who received a Mirena intrauterine device in the summer of 2009 thought there wouldn’t be any problems. When her doctor followed up in a visit several months later, it could not be found. After a macabre version of hide-and-seek, the gynecologist eventually located the Mirena IUD behind the ovaries, where it had reportedly created a cyst. She has now filed a Mirena IUD lawsuit against the manufacturer.
Bayer Pharmaceutical does admit that the IUD can lead to Mirena uterine perforation side effects, but only during the procedure to insert the device. Following from that, adverse Mirena side effects warnings do not include device migration, which can lead to organ damage and repair surgeries. In the case of the woman, just finding the IUD required an endoscopy into the uterus and then an x-ray, according to the lawsuit filed by the woman’s Mirena IUD injury lawyer.
There have been thousands of women who have filed lawsuits regarding other birth control options like Yaz and Yasmin. However, in that case, the rate of blood clot side effects is one in 1,000. Various reports indicate that Mirena uterine perforation side effects and other conditions requiring procedures or hospital stays is one in 16.
The birth control device is supported by obstetricians and gynecologists who argue that long-term contraception offers a higher rate of success because women do not have to follow the schedule of the pill or receive monthly injections. However, in this case, increasing usage would put a higher proportion of woman at risk for Mirena vaginal hemorrhage side effects and related risks. There are already enough Mirena lawsuits that they are being consolidated near the Bayer subsidiary’s main office in Morris County.
In the bad old days of pharmaceutical advertising, the company marketed the Mirena IUD as being able to make women feel better and look better. The FDA forced them to pull the advertising several years ago, but the possibility of Mirena vaginal hemorrhage side effects has not been pursued to the same degree.
In fact, many side effects that follow the procedure are only publicized when included in claims from Mirena IUD lawsuit lawyers. It is unclear whether or not the company will start settling with plaintiffs. There is precedent for it to happen: the aforementioned Yaz and Yasmin plaintiffs have received roughly $200,000 each from the company when their claims include blood clot side effects.
