Multiple Depakote Birth Defect Lawsuits Filed

By John Curran

Depakote birth defectsWhile SSRI antidepressant birth defect class action lawsuits are very common, they aren’t the only drugs that should concern pregnant mental health patients. Seven Plaintiffs have filed claims with the help of Depakote birth defect lawyers, alleging that Depakote caused birth defect side effects when mothers took it during the first part of their pregnancy.

In addition to treating epileptic seizures, bipolar disroder and migraines, Depakote is also prescribed to people suffering from severe depression. That means that the same people who have filed SSRI birth defect class action lawsuits had been treated for similar conditions. In the case of the Depakote birth defects lawsuit, the Plaintiffs’ children were born with a host of severe problems, including deformities, heart defects and spina bifida, among others. All of these are alleged to be Depakote birth defects.

Experienced Depakote and SSRI birth defect lawsuit lawyers already know that the federal Food and Drug Administration reports that taking the drugs causes Depakote side effects like reduced intelligence in children. It’s a lifelong problem, and one that is similar to SSRI antidepressant side effects like holes in the heart that will also often require extensive procedures, if not lifelong care that can end up costing hundreds of thousands or more.

It’s important to recognize that while there is Zoloft multi-district litigation (MDL) allowing multiple Zoloft birth defects lawsuits to be heard from around the country, there is not one for Depakote side effects, or those of related drugs such as Lamictal. MDL trials enable lawyers to offer their own arguments, which means that the choice of a birth defect law firm can be significant. Yet it’s also important for families to consider what their legal options are for other drugs, as there are fewer Depakote birth defects lawsuit attorneys with experience.
