Medical Society Ignores Mirena IUD Side Effects
By John Curran
If the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) had its way, women throughout the United States would throw away packs of the “Pill” and move to long-term contraception devices in spite of warnings about Mirena IUD side effects. The difference between the two options is fairly stark.
Millions of women put themselves at risk for Yaz blood clot side effects, and the manufacturer is paying more than a billion dollars to settle Yasmin and Yaz lawsuits. However, the percentage of women who experience problems is smaller than those for intrauterine devices like the Mirena IUD. One in 20 women find the device spontaneously exited the cervix before causing any Mirena IUD side effects.
However, the rate of Mirena uterine perforation side effects is higher than that of blood clots from the pill. One in 1,000 are at risk even if the IUD is inserted by an expert. That would mean that more than 300 women are likely to risk damage to either their uterus or cervix from IUDs sold in the U.S. in the third quarter of 2012 alone. Those numbers are high, and could be higher if the gynecologist is not experienced.
In spite of this, ACOG is continuing to call for women to use IUDs, as well as implantable hormones that carry their own side effect profile. While there is a small filament similar to a fishing line that doctors can use to check that the IUD is still there, it is often of little help. It can often migrate outside of the uterus, leading to Mirena IUD infertility side effects that are a permanent development.
Were women to take the advice of the medical society, it would likely occupy one of the top spots on the FDA’s annual adverse effects reports. Yet many are not aware of the risk of Mirena uterine perforation side effects or Mirena IUD migration issues. Bayer, the manufacturer, does not list warning information about the device moving once it is inserted.
There are legal options available to women who did not know these Mirena IUD side effects existed. Visit the Mirena IUD Injury Class Action Lawsuit Settlement Investigation now and fill out the short form. A free legal consultation will help women understand whether they can and should pursue a claim against Bayer. It may be too late to repair some damage, but a jury award or settlement could help with other needs.
