A South Carolina resident recently filed a lawsuit against Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, alleging that Xarelto bleeding led to hysterectomy surgery.
The plaintiff, Linda M., began taking Xarelto at the direction of her doctor in November 2014 and continued until July 2015.
Linda took Xarelto to reduce her risk of deep vein thrombosis.
According to the lawsuit, Linda M. suffered from life-threatening Xarelto vaginal bleeding. This Xarelto bleeding led to hysterectomy surgery, and caused serious pain and personal injuries, as well as emotional distress and financial expenses.
The lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including negligence, strict products liability, breach of express and implied warranties, fraudulent misrepresentation and concealment, and fraud and deceit, among several others.
Background of Xarelto
Xarelto (also known by its generic name, rivaroxaban) is a blood thinning drug manufactured and sold by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a prominent subsidiary of pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson. Xarelto is one of the most popular blood thinners currently on the market.
Xarelto is prescribed in order to treat blood clots and conditions related to clotting, including, in the case of this plaintiff, deep vein thrombosis. Blood clots can be very dangerous, and in some cases can be fatal.
However, despite Xarelto’s popularity, a growing number of Xarelto lawsuits like this one are being filed.
Lawsuits allege that Janssen knew about the Xarelto side effects linked with Xarelto, and yet failed to adequately warn both consumers and the medical community about these Xarelto side effects, placing patients at serious risk.
While Xarelto is used to prevent often dangerous blood clots, clots do actually have a life-saving function essential in certain circumstances, which can become a problem if a body is unable to produce clots.
In extreme situations like a serious accident or an emergency surgery, the body forms blood clots in order to slow bleeding.
Patients taking blood thinners like Xarelto, however, may be unable to form these life-saving clots in these kinds of situations, and may suffer from Xarelto side effects as a result.
Xarelto Side Effects
Plaintiffs involved in recent Xarelto lawsuits include a variety of Xarelto bleeding side effects. These include:
- Gastrointestinal bleeding (GI bleeding)
- Rectal bleeding
- Uterine bleeding
- Hemorrhaging
- Brain hemorrhaging
- Hermarthrosis (bleeding into joint spaces)
- Bloody stool
- Heavy vaginal bleeding
- Minor bleeding (nosebleeds, heavy menstrual flow)
Unfortunately, these serious Xarelto problems can lead to permanent injury or even death.
In the case of this plaintiff, whose Xarelto bleeding led to hysterectomy surgery, Xarelto injuries may lead to medical expenses and surgical injuries, as well as expose patients to surgical complications.
Xarelto Lawsuits
Filing a Xarelto gastrointestinal bleeding lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering of someone who has experienced severe Xarelto side effects, and cannot bring a loved one back to life.
However, a Xarelto lawsuit can at least help to compensate for the financial expenses often incurred by medical bills and lost wages.
If you or someone you love has experienced severe Xarelto bleeding side effects or even death caused by Xarelto, you may be able to file a Xarelto lawsuit.
The Xarelto Bleeding Lawsuit is Case No. 2:16-cv-17696, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
