Inside Look at One Woman’s Yaz Lawsuit Settlement
By John Curran
Bayer Pharmaceutical makes more than enough from its birth control pills that paying Yaz blood clot settlements would only lose it a year’s revenue from just that class of drugs. However, at a time when there are more than 10,000 Yaz lawsuits filed — and 8,000 Yaz lawsuits still outstanding — it’s important to note individual stories.
Kerry Sims was one of the first batch of Yaz lawsuit plaintiffs to receive a settlement, although it took more than three years from the initial filing until she received word that Bayer Pharmaceutical would pay up. In Wisconsin, she also had the advantage of being able to sue Walgreens, as the pharmacy should have been aware of the risks of products that it chose to sell. By avoiding visible Yaz side effects like acne and weight gain, Sims had actually increased the probability of Yaz pulmonary embolism side effects, for which she had to receive treatment.
In part, Bayer was undone by the FDA forcing the company to retract factually incorrect information about its safety. When one visits the websites for Yaz, Yasmin, Ocella and Beyaz, one has to read safety information about Yaz blood clot side effects before being able to click through to the main page. Sims did not have that option, and years passed in between the launch and the warnings.
Bayer, as companies do, still says that the mountain of scientific studies regarding Yaz blood clot side effects is inconclusive, ignoring the FDA proclamation about those same concerns. Unfortunately, while the company has settled thousands of Yaz blood clot lawsuit claims, some fly under the radar. Sims was lucky in a sense to develop Yaz pulmonary embolism side effects because her case was serious enough to warrant scrutiny and an eventual Yaz lawsuit settlement.
While there is a link that has been validated scientifically between the birth control pills like Yaz, Yasmin, Beyaz and Ocella and gallbladder conditions, Bayer refuses to settle with those plaintiffs. Birth control lawsuit lawyers continue to fight for their patients based on the research, if not any change in marketing by the drug maker.
Women who have dealt with Yaz blood clots or gallbladder problems (and any other Yaz side effect) are certainly not alone. However, while some may not have considered it, a legal remedy is available to women whose cases merit it. Learn whether or not you are eligible when you visit the Yaz/Yasmin, Beyaz & Ocella Birth Control Pill Class Action Lawsuit Settlement & Investigation.
