New Plaintiff Alleges Connection Between PPI and Chronic Kidney DiseasePlaintiff Reginald T. is the most recent patient to argue that there is a connection between PPI and chronic kidney disease. Using PPI drugs such as Nexium, according to the lawsuit, could lead to the development of significant kidney problems including chronic kidney disease.

Reginald’s PPI and chronic kidney disease claim has been added to the multidistrict litigation lodged against the manufacturers of Nexium, AstraZeneca. The MDL argues that patients were never given the opportunity to learn about these risks in advance prior to taking the drugs.

The plaintiff says that as a result of the problems with PPI and chronic kidney disease, that he suffered injury as well as economic losses that could have been prevented if the manufacturers had appropriately warned patients or the medical community about severe side effects.

The plaintiff in the PPI and chronic kidney disease lawsuit says that he used PPI products between 2003 and 2015, including Prevacid 24HR, Nexium 24HR, Prilosec OTC and Nexium.

The plaintiff says that directly as a result of taking these medications, he was exposed to the dangers of PPI and chronic kidney disease. Ultimately, Reginald says he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Reginald also says that the manufacturers of these PPI medications have not done enough to warn the public about PPI and chronic kidney disease risks. He has filed his lawsuit on numerous counts, including negligence, design defect, strict product liability, failure to warn, breach of express warranty, negligent misrepresentation, fraud and fraudulent misrepresentation, breach of implied warranty, violation of state consumer protection laws and fraudulent concealment.

Many similar claims involving the unknown link between PPI and chronic kidney disease argue that AstraZeneca should be held liable for failing to warn consumers about the possibility of developing this serious kidney condition.

Plenty of these users say that their ongoing reliance on PPI drugs put them at significant risk for the development of chronic kidney disease but that they did not learn about this until it was too late.

Recent academic and medical research studies have begun to find connections between PPI and chronic kidney disease, particularly since many of the plaintiffs in these lawsuits have similar allegations of their suffering and argue that the manufacturer should be held accountable for failing to disclose these.

Many of these plaintiffs say that they would not have opted to use Nexium, Prevacid, or Prilosec or any other PPI drug if they had known about the connection between severe kidney issues and regular use of the drugs.  More studies and reports made to doctors indicate that patients taking these medications are at risk of kidney problems and other medical conditions.

Consumers wishing to hold the manufacturer accountable claim that the companies making these drugs did not do enough to publicize the risks and possible problems related to PPI and chronic kidney disease.

The PPI and Chronic Kidney Disease Lawsuit is Case No. 2:18-cv-17072 in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
