The latest plaintiff to allege that Nexium caused PPI chronic kidney disease has initiated a lawsuit. Plaintiff Marcus B. is the most recent patient to allege that he developed PPI chronic kidney disease after using Nexium as recommended.
This PPI chronic kidney disease complaint is added to the growing MDL against AstraZeneca, alleging that the manufacturer knew or should have known about the dangers of PPI products, but failed to disclose these to the public and medical community, allowing numerous people to sustain economic loses and injuries to themselves.
Many of the plaintiffs involved in this MDL who allegedly developed PPI chronic kidney disease say that they could not have known about the dangers until after taking the medication.
The plaintiff states in his PPI chronic kidney disease lawsuit that he used PPI products between 2011 and 2015, most specifically the Nexium 24 hour version.
He says that as a direct result of his usage, he developed PPI chronic kidney disease. Marcus has initiated his PPI chronic kidney disease claim on multiple counts, including design defects, failure to warn, breach of express and implied warranty, negligent misrepresentation, fraud and fraudulent misrepresentation and fraudulent concealment.
PPI medications such as Prilosec or Nexium are frequently used to treat conditions like acid reflux or GERD. These medications have top nationwide sales across the last couple of decades since many can be bought over-the-counter or by prescription.
The FDA originally approved these proton pump inhibitor medications for use of up to four weeks at a time. However, numerous people say they have used these for a longer period of time and later developed PPI chronic kidney disease. Some studies have revealed significant problems including PPI chronic kidney disease for those patients who took Nexium. Long term use of PPIs could lead to the development of PPI chronic kidney disease or could even worsen underlying heartburn conditions.
One study identified that chronic kidney disease was apparent in 15 percent of PPI users when compared with 11 percent of patients who took another kind of heartburn medication. That study also identified that end-stage kidney failure rates were twice as high among people using proton pump inhibitors.
Currently, more academic and medical studies are underway to identify the connection between Nexium and Prilosec and acute kidney injury or acute interstitial nephritis.
The claims against AstraZeneca regarding Nexium have been consolidated for the streamlined management of all of those cases and more patients continue to file their complaints to the MDL as time goes on, alleging that the company is responsible for their injuries.
Nexium side effects are serious and should be reported to a physician immediately. Those people using Nexium and other PPI drugs over a long period of time must be aware of the higher risks they face because of long-term use, which can include numerous kidney issues such as chronic kidney disease.
The PPI Chronic Kidney Disease lawsuit is Case No. 2:18-cv-16731, in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
