FDA’s Approval a Menace to Pradaxa Side Effects Victims, Doctors Say

By John Curran

Pradaxa bleeding lawsuitApologists for the FDA want you to know that Pradaxa side effects may not have been as bad as you think. After all, it seems unfair for a recent report from the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) to argue that they approved the anticoagulant too quickly, they say. However, Pradaxa gastrointestinal bleeding lawyers would argue that 260 Pradaxa bleeding deaths indicate that something was wrong when the company launched the product in 2010.

The FDA’s director, Dr. Janet Woodcock, told a newspaper that she would “like to stress that where there are unmet medical needs, the public has told us they are willing to accept greater risks,” which does not apply to Pradaxa side effects. The fact that Pradaxa cerebral hemorrhaging claims can number in the thousands is underscored by the fact that there are effective medications in its class with a much smaller side effect profile.

The JAMA report also notes that there is a terrifying fact behind many Pradaxa deaths: there is no known counter to Pradaxa bleeding, meaning near certain fatality. Pradaxa side effects, then, are much more significant than those for other medications, which can be treated to some extent. In that vein, the fact that a cardiopulmonologist at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic says the FDA needs to publicize any potential risks of Pradaxa bleeding, or force the pharmaceutical companies themselves, should hearten Pradaxa wrongful death attorneys.

Whether or not the FDA changes its policies to include that task, or the additional idea that data needs to be published on pre-release studies or a drug will get pulled may be of little help to those who have been seriously hurt by Pradaxa bleeding or have loved ones who suffered thanks to Pradaxa side effects. Currently, the Pradaxa internal bleeding lawsuit MDL is one of the options of last resort, but it could provide some hope and assistance for those who have been affected.
