Eliquis intracranial hemorrhage bleedingAs with any drug, the blood thinner Eliquis comes with several side effects. However, some patients have discovered a more serious consequence of taking the popular drug: Eliquis intracranial hemorrhage, a side effect that can lead to death in some cases.

Background of Eliquis

Eliquis (generic name apixaban) is a popular blood thinning drug manufactured and distributed by Bristol-Myers Squibb. Eliquis is one of a new class of blood thinning medications that has become more widespread in recent years, known collectively as Factor Xa Inhibitors. Since their introduction to the drug market, Factor Xa Inhibitors like Eliquis have begun to replace the old staple blood thinner, warfarin.

Despite the growing popularity Eliquis and other Factor Xa Inhibitors, these drugs have been linked with a number of severe and even potentially fatal side effects, including Eliquis intracranial hemorrhage.

Indeed, many Eliquis users have come forward with their own stories of Eliquis bleeding problems that have led to serious, permanent problems or, in some cases, even death. As a result, a growing number of Eliquis users and their family members are filing an ever-growing number of Eliquis lawsuits against Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Eliquis Intracranial Hemorrhage

One of the most extreme possible side effects of Eliquis is intracranial hemorrhage, which involves the accumulate of blood in the skull but outside the vascular system.

There are a few kinds of Eliquis intracranial hemorrhage that patients may be at risk of. Hemorrhagic stroke, subdural hematoma, and epidural hematoma have all been reported.

An Eliquis intracranial hemorrhage is extremely serious, and is connected with about 20 percent of all strokes.

More common side effects of Eliquis are minor. Mild side effects of Eliquis include nausea, easy bruising, and minor bleeding. In rarer cases, Eliquis bleeding problems can become extreme or even life-threatening.

Blood thinners work to stop blood clots from forming, since blood clots are often dangerous. However, blood clots do serve a useful and life-saving purpose in certain instances: clotting can actually be one of the body’s only defenses against excessive bleeding. A person taking Eliquis or another blood thinner would be unable to form these life-saving blood clots, placing them at greater risk.

This is not a serious concern for users of certain other anticoagulant users, as some of these drugs have antidotes to counteract the drug in emergencies and allow the blood to clot once again.

Eliquis, however, has no such antidote. This means that patients suffering from serious bleeding problems like Eliquis intracranial hemorrhage may be in greater danger than those who took another kind of anticoagulant.

Eliquis Intracranial Hemorrhage Lawsuits

A number of injured patients and their families are filing Eliqus lawsuits over serious bleeding problems like Eliquis intracranial hemorrhage.

Lawsuits allege that Bristol-Myers Squibb knew about these serious side effects of Eliquis and yet failed to warn the public and the medical community about these risks. Plaintiffs allege that Bristol-Myers Squibb not only failed to warn about the risks, but even actively misled the public about the safety and efficacy of Eliquis.

Though filing an Eliquis lawsuit can neither undo the damage of an Eliquis intracranial hemorrhage and other serious side effects, nor bring a loved one back to life, it may be able to help compensate for financial expenses incurred by medical bills or lost wages.

If you or someone you know has taken Eliquis or a similar medication and has since suffered from major Eliquis bleeding problems, you may be able to file an Eliquis lawsuit.
