Do Proscar Side Effects Outweigh Benefits?

Research sponsored by the National Cancer Institute noted that after 15 years, the survival rate of men taking finasteride after a cancer diagnosis was about equal to men who used other therapies. While 78 percent is still a good number, the study author notes that it does not do much if there are other treatments. However, they do argue that Proscar side effects may be worth it in earlier stages of treatment.

Specifically, the study noted that if men take the drug when they have an enlarged prostate but prior to a PSA test indicating they have prostate cancer, it reduced the likelihood of developing cancerous tissues. In addition, if the diagnosis comes relatively early, the study found that the medication was helpful in improving survival rates compared to placebo.

Still, while many of these men may be older, facing problems like erectile dysfunction side effects may still give them pause.
