Dilantin Side Effects Can Be Severe
By Andrea Gressman
The use of Dilantin comes with a long list of side effect risks. Some of these are not as serious but some of these Dilantin side effects can be severe and even life threatening. One such side effect that has been linked to the use of Dilantin is Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS). Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is another one. Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) typically starts out as SJS and then becomes so severe that it develops into TEN. These diseases are not overly common, but Dilantin patients have still developed these dreadful conditions and they have been fatal for many as well. Dilantin, also referred to as phenytoin, is an anticonvulsant that has been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration to treat epilepsy. Pfizer is Dilantin’s manufacturer and has been listed as the defendant in a number of Dilantin lawsuits that have been filed due to these very serious side effect issues. Many Dilantin lawsuit plaintiffs have charged Pfizer with failure to warn because they feel Pfizer did not properly warn the medical community or potential patients of the side effect risks Dilantin carries. Many have claimed in Dilantin lawsuits that if they would have been aware of such severe side effect risks they would have chosen another option.
