treatments for breast cancer lead to hair lossAnother woman has added her claim to the growing multi-district litigation over allegations that certain treatments for breast cancer, such as Taxotere, cause permanent hair loss.

The women who argue that these treatments for breast cancer cause alopecia, or permanent hair loss, claim that they were not ever told about the permanence of this side effect.

Many women undergoing chemotherapy treatments know that they have a risk of hair loss due to how the treatment operates, but many of the women who have filed legal claims argue that they were not told that these treatments for breast cancer could lead to permanent hair loss and the emotional scars that follow.

Taxotere Lawsuit

Plaintiff Diana M. is the most recent woman to allege that her Taxotere treatment for breast cancer led to lasting, painful and permanent hair loss. The plaintiff in this lawsuit was a resident of Ohio when she received treatment for breast cancer with Taxotere, a chemotherapy drug manufactured by Sanofi-Aventis.

She alleges that at the time that she was told about possible treatments for breast cancer she was not told that undergoing the Taxotere treatment would lead to permanent hair loss.

She says that she received the Taxotere treatments between May and July of 2011. During treatment, she allegedly lost all of her hair on her head as well as experienced permanent hair loss over her body. She adds her lawsuit to the growing multidistrict litigation from women all over the country making similar allegations.

Diana’s Taxotere lawsuit was filed on multiple counts including fraud and deceit, fraudulent concealment, fraudulent misrepresentation, negligence, failing to warn, and negligent misrepresentation.

Impact of Permanent Hair Loss

Diana and many other women who have undergone Taxotere treatment for breast cancer say that they were never given appropriate warnings at the outset of undergoing chemo that they would suffer alopecia. Alopecia is a condition that causes hair loss throughout the body, and one that can be especially difficult for women who expect the hair on their head to return.

Many plaintiffs say that although they have been able to move on following their original diagnosis of breast cancer, having entered remission, that the emotional impacts remain due to the permanent loss of their hair.

With an ever increasing number of women filing permanent hair loss lawsuits against Sanofi,  cases have been compiled into a Taxotere MDL for the streamlining of discovery and other aspects of the legal process.

Diana’s Taxotere lawsuit is Case No. 2:18-cv-12818 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
