Pradaxa bleeding emergency room signIn a growing number of lawsuits against Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, patients allege a series of serious adverse effects of Pradaxa.

Pradaxa Background

Pradaxa (also known by its generic name, dabigatran) was approved as a replacement for the warfarin in 2010. Warfarin, of course, was the staple blood thinner option for decades.

Since this approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and subsequent release onto the market, Pradaxa has only increased in its popularity.

This rise in popularity may be partially attributed to the fact that, despite a considerable price hike, Pradaxa does not require the constant blood monitoring checkups that has been required of warfarin users for decades. Indeed, many Pradaxa users feel that this extra cost is worth the it if it means avoiding those extra trips to the doctor for blood monitoring checkups. In fact, just a few years after entering the drug market, millions had already switched to using Pradaxa, and sales skyrocketed.

Unfortunately, the widespread popularity of Pradaxa means that any adverse effects of Pradaxa can affect a significant number of people. Indeed, thousands of patients have reported a wide variety of adverse effects of Pradaxa.

Adverse Effects of Pradaxa

The most dangerous adverse effects of Pradaxa are excessive bleeding problems. Although excessive bleeding is actually a side effect of all anticoagulants, studies show that Pradaxa’s bleeding risk can be greater than, for instance, warfarin.

Usually, when a person is suffering from internal bleeding, their body attempts to combat the effects by forming blood clots to slow the bleeding and allow for medical treatment. However, blood thinners such as Pradaxa can prevent these essential blood clots from forming, making it less likely for medical treatment to arrive in time. Excessive bleeding can, in some cases, lead to brain hemorrhaging or even death.

Other serious adverse effects of Pradaxa that have been reported include heart attacks, liver failure, and even death. The most common of serious Pradaxa side effects, however, is internal bleeding, which can lead to brain hemorrhaging or death.

Most people who take Pradaxa do not suffer from the severe bleeding adverse effects of Pradaxa, but to others, the drug can have serious and lasting side effects.

Filing a Lawsuit over Adverse Effects of Pradaxa

These serious bleeding adverse effects of Pradaxa, including dangerous bleeding side effects, have caused many Pradaxa users to file blood thinner lawsuits against Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, alleging that the company failed to adequately warn consumers and the medical community abou the risks associated with their drug.

If you or someone you know has taken Pradaxa and has subsequently experienced any of the above symptoms, such as excessive bleeding or brain hemorrhaging, due to Pradaxa, you may have cause for filing a blood thinner lawsuit against Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals over adverse effects of Pradaxa.

In general, Pradaxa lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
