Actos Bladder Cancer Class Action Lawsuit Filed in Canada
By Matt O’Donnell
An Actos class action lawsuit has been filed in Quebec, Canada on behalf of individuals there who developed bladder cancer after using the diabetes drug Actos. The lawsuit alleges the drug’s manufacturers, Takeda Pharmaceuticals and Eli Lilly, were responsible for failing to warn consumers about the risks of Actos bladder cancer. The claims in the class action lawsuit are nearly identical to those made in hundreds of Actos bladder cancer lawsuits filed in the United States. In June 2011, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration added a warning label for Actos advising consumers that using the drug for more than a year may increase the risk of developing bladder cancer. That same month, health regulators in France removed Actos from the market, essentially issuing an Actos recall, after identifying increases in bladder cancer among Actos users. Although no U.S. Actos recall has been issued, the drug is under close watch following thousands of reports of adverse side effects. One of the most troubling side effects of Actos is bladder cancer, which hundreds of consumers are suing Takeda and Eli Lilly over. Lawsuit Plaintiffs allege the drug manufacturers were aware of the risk of Actos bladder cancer, but continued to market the drug and failed to adequately warn consumers about the risks.
