Man placing a bet at the casinoAnother lawsuit alleging pathological gambling side effects has joined the growing litigation over the popular antipsychotic medication Abilify. According to lawsuits, ingestion of this drug can cause a number of compulsive behavioral problems including pathological gambling.

The patient involved in this new Abilify pathological gambling lawsuit, plaintiff William C., is a resident of Kentucky. William says he began taking Abilify at the direction of his doctor in 2009 and continued this usage through 2016.

According to the lawsuit, the use of Abilify resulted in serious complications for the patient. These complications allegedly include a problem with pathological gambling that has caused mental anguish, loss of earnings, and more. These side effects have also necessitated medical care and treatment which have caused William significant expenses. The lawsuit alleges that these side effects are a direct result of the exposure to Abilify.

William filed his lawsuit on Feb. 6, 2018, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida. William’s Abilify pathological gambling lawsuit alleges multiple claims including breach of express and implied warranties, negligence, and fraudulent concealment.

Background of Abilify

Abilify, also known by its generic name aripiprazole, is an antipsychotic medication produced by Bristol-Myers Squibb and Otsuka Pharmaceuticals. Abilify is used to treat several mental disorders including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and depression. Its wide usage has led Abilify to bring in nearly $8 billion annually in sales.

However, a growing number of patients are reporting serious Abilify side effects involving impulse control problems, which can often manifest in behaviors like Abilify pathological gambling, sex addiction, and compulsive shopping. Money loss from Abilify pathological gambling can land patients deep in debt, they say, costing them tens of thousands of dollars.

Abilify Pathological Gambling

Abilify pathological gambling can be extremely severe. People who suffer from these side effects may gamble with credit cards or borrow money which can lead to severe Abilify gambling loss. This is the kind of monetary damage that can ruin lives, the user’s as well as the lives of their family members.

Pathological gambling can directly cost a patient thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars, but there is also the additional issue of the money it costs to undergo gambling addiction treatment. Indeed, one of the major problems reported with compulsive gambling and other impulse problems is that they are extremely difficult to stop and return to normal life without getting professional help.

More and more patients are coming forward with their own stories about Abilify pathological gambling side effects and other complications. Some patients are choosing to file lawsuits against the drug’s manufacturer.
