On October 24, 2012, a new Zimmer hip implant lawsuit filed by Richard and Bonnie Weiner. The Zimmer hip implant lawsuit was filed in a federal court located in Newark, New Jersey. The husband and wife filed the Zimmer hip implant lawsuit claiming that Bonnie Weiner’s Zimmer hip Durom Cup implant devices were defective, causing the plaintiff to develop serious complications. One of these side effects included metallosis. This eventually caused the plaintiff to have to undergo another surgery to remove the defective metal hip implant devices in both hips.
In the Zimmer hip implant lawsuit it claims that the plaintiff received her first metal hip replacement on June 1, 2007 for her right hip. On November 7, 2007, the plaintiff received her second hip replacement surgery for her left hip. The Zimmer hip implant lawsuit goes on to explain that in 2012 the plaintiff required that both metal hip implants be removed because of her development of metallosis. This condition is a known side effect for several metal-on-metal hip implant devices and is the result of the metal components scraping together. When this happens, microscopic metallic components are released into the hip implant recipient’s blood stream. Metallosis can result in permanent damage including the following side effects:
* Death of tissue around the joint
* Loss of surrounding bone
* Pain
