Mesothelioma Asbestos Risk Identified Sooner Thanks to New Test

By John Curran

asbestos mesotheliomaAsbestos mesothelioma is one of the most common forms of that specific type of cancer, but scientists may be able to help those who are most at risk so they can get checked for asbestos mesothelioma before it may be too late for treatment. Rather than painful tests, future asbestos mesothelioma lawsuit Plaintiffs may simply need to pass a dermatologist’s eye test.

Researchers at the University of Hawaii already identified what they call the BAP1 gene, which they say puts people at increased risk for developing mesothelioma cancer. And while current asbestos mesothelioma lawsuit attorneys may not be able to help their clients with the information, it could give other patients a fighting chance with genetic analysis.

It is getting even easier thanks to a potential breakthrough from Dr. Michele Carbone. In a small-scale study, she argued that identifying certain skin spots would point to increased risk for asbestos mesothelioma as well as other types of skin cancers. It was only a small-scale study, so further proof would be needed. Unfortunately, nearly all of the 3,000 mesothelioma diagnoses each year are fatal within 18 months, but the new test may end up reducing the number of mesothelioma asbestos lawsuits.

Parents should take heart, since many of the cases had involved children who were exposed to asbestos in schools or other older buildings, as well as workplace asbestos exposure from their parents. And many asbestos mesothelioma lawsuit attorneys find it hard to publicize the fact that common symptoms like breathing difficulty and fevers are from the potentially fatal disease. One big differentiating factor is the weight gain, which is usually only around the stomach.
