VCA Animal Hospitals agreed to pay $210,000 to resolve claims it hired unlicensed debt collectors in violation of Illinois law.
The settlement benefits consumers who received veterinary services from VCA Animal Hospitals and VCA hired M. Leonard & Associates to collect on their account between Jan. 1, 2019, and June 20, 2023.
Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim VCA Animal Hospitals violated Illinois law by hiring M. Leonard & Associates, an unlicensed debt collector. The class action lawsuit also claims M. Leonard & Associated further violated the law with illegal debt-collection practices.
VCA Animal Hospitals is a national chain of veterinary clinics with over 1,000 hospitals.
VCA Animal Hospitals hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $210,000 settlement to resolve the debt-collection class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive a cash payment of between $150 and $200. Exact payment amounts will vary depending on the number of participating class members.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Aug. 4, 2023.
The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Sept. 28, 2023.
No claim form is required to benefit from the settlement. Class members who do not exclude themselves will automatically receive their settlement payments to an address on file. Class members can update their addresses on the settlement website.Â
