Toyota agreed to a Rav4 battery settlement to resolve claims that its SUVs were equipped with defective batteries that could cause power loss or electrical fires.
The settlement benefits current and former owners and lessees of 2013-2018 RAV4 vehicles covered by the Recall 23V-734, as of June 25, 2024. Consumers can check their eligibility using their vehicle’s VIN on the settlement website.
According to plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit, Toyota sold its Rav4 SUVs with defective battery terminals and forced drivers to cover the cost of replacements and repairs. The defect in these terminals allegedly caused loss of power, vehicle stalling and even fires in the engine compartment.
Toyota is a Japanese car brand that sells vehicles including the Rav4 SUV.
Toyota hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the battery defect class action lawsuit.
Under the settlement’s terms, drivers can receive a free inspection and reimbursement for out-of-pocket repairs, battery replacements and repairs due to unique thermal vents.
The settlement establishes an inspection program that provides free battery inspections to ensure that class member vehicle batteries are the correct size. As long as the battery is the correct size, any damaged or missing components used to secure it will be replaced free of charge during this inspection.
The settlement also provides a battery replacement reimbursement program which provides up to $75 in reimbursement for past battery purchases. Class members who received a $32 discount under Consumer Advisory 21TG01 can receive $43. Class members who did not receive the discount before June 25, 2024 or who purchased a battery from a Toyota dealer after June 25, 2024 can receive a $75 reimbursement. Battery replacement reimbursement is not available for class members who purchased a replacement battery from a non-Toyota dealership source.
Class members can also claim reimbursement for out of pocket repairs, replacements and damages associated with unique thermal events. Reimbursement from these categories will vary depending on the documented expenses claimed.
The deadline for exclusion is Oct. 21, 2024. The deadline to object to the settlement is Sept. 30, 2024.
The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Nov. 19, 2024.
There are several different claim deadlines for the Rav4 battery settlement. The claim deadline for unreimbursed out-of-pocket repairs and other expense reimbursement is Dec. 1, 2024.The deadline to submit a claim with battery replacement reimbursement is June 25, 2025. The claim deadline for out-of-pocket unique thermal events reimbursement is July 1, 2025.

6 thoughts onToyota Rav4 battery class action settlement
I agree that non-Toyota purchased batteries should be included. I could not make it to the dealer to get the battery changed.
Re: Rav4
When are we able to get our batteries checked?
I had to purchase a non- Toyota replacement battery because I could not afford the Toyota brand. Because they won’t reimburse, I would like to begin a new lawsuit to include all of us that had to do same. Please contact me asap. Thank you.
Right me too!!!
