Residents of California who used the Tinder app and subscribed to Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold may be eligible for compensation in the form of 70 Super Likes, one Boost, and a one-time cash payment thanks to a recent Tinder age discrimination class action lawsuit settlement.

Settlement Class Members include all California Tinder app users who subscribed to Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold between March 2, 2015, and March 1, 2019, and were at least 29 years old when they made the purchase.

Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit allege Tinder broke several laws and acted unconscionably toward its customers by charging a higher price for Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold subscriptions to consumers who were older than 29. This type of marketing strategy, the plaintiffs allege, violates both the California Unruh Civil Rights Act and the California Unfair Competition Law.

Tinder denies the plaintiff’s claims and does not accept legal liability in this situation.

Rather, the company believes there is no legal basis to prove that Class Members are eligible for relief in the Tinder age discrimination class action.

Despite that, both parties have reached a proposed agreement, which will be reviewed by the Court on the final fairness hearing date.

Tinder is one of the most popular dating apps, with over 6.44 million downloads in January 2021 alone, according to TechJury.com.

Class Members who have current Tinder accounts at the time of the allotment will receive 70 Super Likes and one Boost at no cost. The value of this compensation is estimated at $118.30.

On top of that, each Class Member can elect to receive a cash payment of $50. The availability of this cash payment will hinge on what remains in the settlement fund after all attorneys’ fees, allocation costs, and other awards are paid out. It also depends on how many Class Members file a claim for additional compensation.

Class Members also have the right to object to the Tinder age discrimination settlement or exclude themselves from participation in the Settlement Class. The deadline to object is Dec. 15, 2021, while the deadline to file an exclusion is Dec. 16, 2021.

A final approval hearing, originally scheduled for Jan. 10, 2022, has been rescheduled to Jan. 28, 2022.

Class Members who want to receive additional benefits outside of the 70 Super Likes and one Boost must file a timely claim.

Those who received a notice about this lawsuit settling in 2019 and filed a claim at that time do not need to file a new claim; the defendants will honor the previous claim form. That previous settlement was not implemented.

The deadline to file a claim in the Tinder app age discrimination class action lawsuit settlement is Feb. 9, 2022.
