Southland Holdings agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims it failed to prevent a 2021 data breach that compromised employee information.
The settlement benefits current and former Southland Holdings employees whose personal information was compromised in the Southland data breach in September 2021.
Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim Southland Holdings failed to take reasonable cybersecurity measures to protect employee information. As a result, hackers allegedly gained access to this information in the data breach.
Southland Holdings is a construction company specializing in bridge, tunnel, water resource and marine projects.
Southland Holdings hasn’t admitted wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the class action lawsuit.
Under the settlement terms, class members can receive either 30 months of free credit monitoring or an alternative payment of $35. Class members may also be able to recover up to $250 in compensation for misuse of their personal information, including documented fraudulent credit applications, denied funding due to flagged credit, or fraudulent tax returns.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is March 22, 2024.
The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for May 9, 2024.
To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by April 22, 2024.
