Schneck Medical Center agreed to a $1.3 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims it failed to prevent a 2021 data breach and provide compensation for those affected.

The settlement benefits individuals who received a data breach notification letter from Jackson County Schneck Memorial Hospital, doing business as Schneck Medical Center, regarding a September 2021 data breach.

Plaintiffs in the data breach class action lawsuits claim Jackson County’s Schneck Medical Center failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures that would have prevented a September 2021 data breach. As a result, hackers allegedly accessed patient names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, protected health information, health insurance information and other sensitive data.

Schneck Medical Center is a hospital in Seymour, Indiana, that serves Jackson, Jennings, Scott and Washington counties.

Schneck Medical Center hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $1.3 million to resolve the data breach class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive up to $500 for ordinary data breach-related expenses, including up to four hours of lost time compensated at a rate of $15 per hour.

Class members who experienced extraordinary losses related to the Schneck Medical Center data breach can receive larger compensation payments of up to $6,000. These payment caps may be reduced depending on the number of valid claims filed.

All class members are eligible to receive 27 months of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services through CyEx. These services include $1 million in identity theft insurance.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Aug. 7, 2023.

I did here about the cyber attack at said Hospital but I’m not sure it had affected me in any way. I try to find out by my phone and credit report but to no avail information. I have hackers and viruses there about that time and had to set different specs and anything that had helped get my info back on track. It did take a while butI’m just totally sure. If you still think I’m entitle to the breach don’t hesitate to contact me by all means. Ty
