Road Runner Sports has agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims it violated California law with misleading automatic renewal disclosures.

The settlement benefits consumers who were enrolled in a Road Runner Sports VIP Rewards Membership in California between July 1, 2013, and May 1, 2025, and who were charged a fee to renew their membership.

Road Runner Sports is a company that sells athletic shoes, with locations in several states including California, Illinois, New York, Texas and Washington.

According to this class action lawsuit, Road Runner Sports violated California law with its automatic renewal policies. The retailer allegedly failed to provide clear and conspicuous disclosures about the cost of renewing VIP memberships and failed to provide an easy way for consumers to cancel their memberships.

Road Runner Sports has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve these allegations.

Under the terms of the Road Runner Sports settlement, the company agreed to make several changes to its business practices. These practices include improving transparency by clearly disclosing renewal costs, training staff, updating marketing materials, adding a “decline” option in stores and sending two reminder emails before VIP membership renewals.

The settlement also provides benefits to class members based on their enrollment status.

Currently enrolled class members will receive a $10 discount on their next renewal period. For example, if final approval is granted on Aug. 1, 2025, and a class member’s renewal is scheduled for Sept. 1, 2025, they will receive a $10 discount on their renewal charge on that date.

Currently enrolled class members will also receive $15 in rewards cash deposited into their accounts.

Formerly enrolled class members will receive a free VIP Family Rewards Membership, which will last 12 months at no cost. These class members will also receive $15 or $25 in rewards cash, depending on when their membership terminated.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Oct. 15, 2025.

The final approval hearing for the Road Runner Sports automatic renewal settlement is scheduled for Nov. 14, 2025.

Class members who do not exclude themselves will automatically receive settlement benefits. However, currently enrolled class members can receive additional benefits by submitting a valid claim form by Dec. 14, 2025.

If you purchased a Road Runner Sports VIP membership, you may qualify to join the class action lawsuit investigation.
