A Hot Topic settlement resolves claims the retailer violated California and Oregon law by advertising its products with misleading discounts.

The settlement benefits California residents who purchased one or more products on Hot Topicโ€™s website between March 15, 2019, and July 29, 2024.

The settlement also benefits Oregon residents who purchased one or more products on Hot Topicโ€™s website between Aug. 25, 2022, and July 29, 2024.

According to the class action lawsuit, Hot Topic deceived customers with advertised discounts that did not actually represent true sales or savings on purchased items. Plaintiffs in the case argue these false sales violated California and Oregon laws.

Hot Topic is a pop culture merch and clothing store.

Hot Topic hasnโ€™t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a settlement to resolve the false advertising class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the Hot Topic settlement, each class member can receive $10. Claimants can receive their settlement benefits as cash payments, a check or electronic payment or as store credits that can be used online at HotTopic.com.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Sept. 27, 2024.

The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Nov. 5, 2024.

To receive a Hot Topic settlement payment, class members must submit a valid claim form by Oct. 27, 2024.
