Centris Federal Credit Union agreed to pay $1.2 million to resolve claims that it charged illegal overdraft fees, non-sufficient funds (NSF) fees and other bank fees.

The settlement benefits consumers who have or had a Centris Federal account and who were charged overdraft, non-sufficient funds and/or returned item fees between June 15, 2017, and April 30, 2022.

The bank fee class action lawsuit accused the credit union of unjustly profiting off of its customers by charging illegal and deceptive fees. The credit union allegedly violated its account agreements with deceptive overdraft fees, NSF fees and returned items fees.

Centris Federal Credit Union is a financial institution based in Nebraska that serves several counties in both Nebraska and Iowa.

Centris Federal hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $1.2 million settlement to resolve the bank fees class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on the number of fees they were charged during the class period.

No payment estimates are available at this time.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Sept. 29, 2023.

The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Oct. 10, 2023.

No claim form is required to benefit from the settlement. Class members who do not exclude themselves will automatically receive a settlement payment.
