Audiophile Music Direct agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims it falsely advertised its records as produced with “analog-only” methods.

The settlement benefits consumers who purchased and still own new and unused Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MoFi) vinyl records marketed as “Original Master Recording” and/or “Ultradisc One-Step” from Audiophile Music Direct or other merchants between March 19, 2007, and July 27, 2022.

According to the class action lawsuit, Audiophile falsely marketed certain MoFi records as produced with “analog-only” methods under “Original Master Recording” and “Ultradisc One-Step” labels. In reality, these records were allegedly produced using a digital transfer step.

Music Direct is Audiophile’s online record and equipment store.

Audiophile hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the Audiophile settlement, class members who return their records in their original covers and/or boxes can receive a full refund of their actual purchase price capped at 100% of the manufacturer’s retail price at the time the records were purchased.

Class members who wish to keep their records can receive either a 5% refund of their purchase price or a coupon worth 10% of their purchase price to be used on Audiophile’s Music Direct retail website.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Aug. 22, 2023.

The final approval hearing for the Audiophile Music Direct “analog only” class action lawsuit settlement is scheduled for Oct. 30, 2023.

In order to receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Sept. 21, 2023.
