Dollar General agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims it charged customers higher prices at the register than advertised on store shelves.

The Dollar General settlement benefits consumers in the United States who paid more or less for merchandise than the advertised price labeled on the shelf at a Dollar General store between Oct. 10, 2016, and Nov. 19, 2025.

Plaintiffs in the Dollar General class action lawsuit accused the discount chain store of charging customers a higher price at the register than the price advertised on store shelves in violation of consumer protection laws.

Dollar General has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $8.5 million to resolve the class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive a cash payment for price overcharges.

Class members who have objective evidence of a price overcharge or who submitted a contemporaneous complaint to a governmental entity or to Dollar General can receive a payment of $10 or the amount of the actual overcharge, whichever is higher, for each separate complaint about a price overcharge. Class members can receive up to two payments for a maximum household recovery of $20.

All class members are eligible for an in-store benefit. Class members can receive a $3 discount on the first $10 of any purchase of at least $10 (pretax). This benefit will be available for redemption during a two-day window at any Dollar General store nationally. Dates for this in-store benefit are to be determined.

Any uncashed checks from the settlement will be donated to a national food bank organization.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is March 2, 2026.

The final approval hearing for the Dollar General settlement is scheduled for March 19, 2026.

To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by April 13, 2026.
